Gas pedal stall backing up a hill.

Hello everyone I’m new to the forum and new to Rams, I just got a 2021 ram 2500 with the 6.4 gas engine about a month ago.

I tow a 6500lb 31’ travel trailer, and today i had to back it up to a little spot we bought. The spot is on pretty inclined hill and i had backed it up once before with my 1500 chevy i had before this truck.

So here’s what happened, i put the truck on 4high and started backing up, right at the middle of the process when the load gets heavy the gas pedal would stop working, i could press it all the way down and the engine would just idle. I put in park and back to r and i could go a few more feet before the same thing happened again.

All in all it happened maybe 5 times, and i got up the hill finally.

Help me out here, im no expert, why is that happening? Is the truck defective? Is that a safety feature? I’ll try to get a picture here for reference.

Welcome and sorry no answer to that one. Did you try low range? The old saying goes..4 low you go ..2 high you die…or something like that .

I did not, i did speak to a friend that may have some insight, because this was a bit steep i was riding the brake on the way back up there. He mentioned that newer trucks will disengage the accel pedal if the brake is pressed at the same time. Im going to test it this pm.

Did you have your door open? Isn't there some sort of nanny feature on the new trucks where you can't back up with the door open (maybe I'm imagining it?)

I think it will put it in park if the door is open with the dial shifter from what i have heard

Yeah i have that “feature” its annoying as hell. But that was not it, it happened also yesterday lol but i knew how to fix that one

That is correct, these drive by wire trucks do not like braking and applying the throttle at the same time. It is possible that was the issue

Is it possible that you were spinning a front and a rear tire? Perhaps traction control was in play?

Any time I’m backing a trailer up something steep, I use 4 low. Its free torque.

When learning to drive when I was 15, my older brother was my teacher. (pre-drivers ed). I'll never forget his words when I got behind the wheel. "I swear to god, if you put your left foot on the brake, I will break your $%&#@& leg". At that point of time in my life, he could do it. Not anymore, I'm 6 - 1 200#. He never got past 5 -7.

You should also get a warning that looks like a lightning bolt surrounded by parenthesis. (supposed to be electronic throttle plate) and a Service (I forget) "something" message.

You can't two foot DBW setups.
