My truck died on me this weekend. Luckily I was local and wasn't needing to get anywhere urgently, and ended up on a quiet side road, so while incredibly frustrating it wasn't a crisis.
A few weeks ago it stalled at a stop sign. Never happened again, ran and started perfectly. Then I was in a Dunkin Donuts drive through, pulled forward and stopped to get organized, it stalled and wouldn't re-start. I went inside to explain why I was blocking the drive through (nobody in line so not a problem ... yet) and when I went back to the truck it started up. So I proceeded to drive, I had already bought a new battery since I thought it was cranking a bit slow and wanted to change it out before weather got cooler, but on the side road it stalled and wouldn't start no matter what I tried.
I got a ride to get the battery and tools, came back and changed it out, still wouldn't start. I finally gave up and had it towed to a repair place, they let me know the fuel pump was dead and needed to be replaced. I like these guys, he said they verified power to the pump and no fuel pressure, so I will assume they are correct on the diagnosis. The OEM pump is back ordered 4 days to add to the aggravation, and this guy said he has had enough problems with aftermarket pumps that he will only put in OEM ones. He also said this is the first 6.4 pump he's seen go bad on a truck with as low miles as mine, 2021 with a bit over 60k miles.
I'll report back when it's installed, probably Monday.
