Hey guys,
I have used the search and cannot seem to find my answers. All stock 2022 Laramie 2500 4x4 with 6.4L Hemi and 8 speed. 3.73 gears.
Problem 1:
When the truck sits for a couple hours, when taking off and turning either into or out of a parking lot spot, the front end has a low pitch growl/rubbing/binding noise coming from it. My daily commute to work is 45 minutes of interstate/county highway and is mostly straight, so very limited turning throughout the run. By the time i get to work and am pulling into my spot you cannot hear it after the trip almost as if it goes away when warmed up. When leaving for lunch and/or a short trip the noise is back. Almost sounds like a bearing trying to let go, or like a failing sway bar bushing sound, but the noise isn't constant, it sort of gets more and less intense, but only when turning sharp radiuses. Makes the noise weather it's on grass or hard pack. Definitely drivetrain related as it is only present when the wheels are turning. Had my local dealer take the cover off the front diff and inspect, but fluid was full and clean with no shavings. refilled with factory fluid, but noise is still present. Shook the front end down and couldnt find any loose hubs, tie rod ends, no driveshaft play, etc. Any ideas?
Problem 2:
The truck prematurely wore out a set of upper ball joints at 34,000 miles. The steering gear had a premature failure at the same time as well. These failures were found as i had a complaint of very loose/sloppy steering. The dealership replaced upper ball joints and also the steering gear under warranty. they also did an alignment. The truck now has 68,000 and the upper ball joints are starting to have play in them again. I am still running the factory tires. They have always had rotation at every oil change. They do have a little more outer tread wear than inner, but given that they have made it this long and are still not at the wear bars tells me that alignment must be pretty decent. The truck visually looks like it has excessive camber, but the dealer tells me there is nothing they can do about that.
Could something be wrong with this front end causing extra stress on the front end creating all of these problems? I drive alot of unloaded interstate mile for my job, and want to get this problem fixed. I bought this truck brand new March 2023 and this has me a little concerned.
Thanks guys
