On our way into my shop this morning I had to smile. For about 2 miles leading to the thruway entrance there was a nice looking ford pick up behind me. I get on the thruway and for another 5 miles this truck is following me when all of a sudden, it pulls out and comes up on my left side and slows right down to my speed. I glance over and its a 1500 Roush edition. I said to my wife, I think he wants to go. She said, look again, SHE wants to go, lol .... I look and it was a young girl waving to me like, lets get it on. I didn't ...... But I thought, this girl knows her trucks, haha
Makes me wonder now how these HO cummins would fair against others. Anyone else been challenged?

Our trucks are slow IMO. When I test drove the ford and Chevy I was surprised at how fast they were. However, the Cummins is the best engine for towing. Pros and cons. I’d say if I was one of those people that bought a diesel just to have one and didn’t tow anything, I’d seriously consider the ford or Chevy/gmc based off performance.

The Cummins will be dead last in almost any drag race. Heavy, low redline, slow shifting Aisin, and, especially, the crippling torque management programming. It's a truck engine with that trademark "lazy grunt", not a V-8 grocery getter, and that is exactly why I stick with them. Six in a row, the only way to tow.

Maybe I live in a different world than you, but my corolla is a grocery getter. That Cummins does pull like a mother, but V8 truck being described as a grocery getter, a bit of a stretch. A V8 truck can do work as a truck, sure does not pull like a diesel, but a good truck to get the jobs done none-the-less. I’ve had two Cummins in the past, got the hemi now, loved them all for what they were. But if I were to waste my fuel getting groceries in a truck, my truck grocery getter would be a 5.9 cummins just for the sound and the mid 20s mpg while cruising around unloaded.

I meant V-8 diesel. My bad. My last truck was a 6.4 Hemi V-8 gasser. Worked well, towed OK. Mid 20s? Maybe a 160 horse 12 valve. Even my '05 wouldn't touch 20 downhill with a tailwind.

My 03 and my 05 were easily averaging 23 On 35s when not towing. I know it sounds nuts, but I can do math, and I loved rubbing it in people’s faces when they gave me **** for polluting. Seeing the look on their face when I let them know my big diesel got better mileage than their Subaru would often shut them up.

Back in the day I had a 2005 Ram 2500. I raced it on 1/4 mile tracks doing NHRDA racing and also competed in a couple Pinks events on the west coast in 2009. I ran ATS compound turbos, twin injection pumps, 3 different tuners, FASS 150 gph fuel pump, bigger injector nozzles and a race built auto. These trucks can be fast, just depends on much you can afford to go. It only takes money. The last year I raced that truck I was pushing 707 hp to the rear tires at almost 1300 torque. I was running low 12s to high 11s depending on conditions at track. Mainly temps and how high from sea level a track might be. I once calculated my 0-60 mph time to be around 3.6 seconds in race tune. Fun times, but expensive hobby when it's your daily rig. lol

First pic is from Pinks Arm Drop Live that was done in Woodburn ,OR in July of 2009. The other 2 are from Pinks All Out that was actually televised from Pacific Raceways in Kent,WA in August of 2009.

I've already dragged my '19 CC LB HO against my old '06 CC LB Chevy Duramax. Mild 40HP tune in the D-max. Kills the RAM no problem. It doesn't help that my Ram weighs a 1000lb more than my Chevy.

I can’t speak for the HO 3500 but I know my 3/4 ton’s rear wheels spin after my tune if I gun it from a dead stop or a roll going less than 20mph.
I can speak for a HO W/O a tune. Lighting up the rear tires is frequently accomplished by adding more than necessary pressure to the go pedal. I don't mean to do it - it just happens sometimes. ;)

My 2016 Duramax (either tuned or stock) could smoke my new ram. It was really fast for a 3/4 ton truck. What it couldn't do is keep the hot-side intercooler pipe attached at the top of a 2 mile 7% grade when pulling our 17k toy hauler. That's why it's in the used lot at the local CJDR dealership. The RAM will tow circles around it. as brutal above said, throw 20k behind 'em and let's go! :)
