Posted this on cumminsforum, posting here as well as I think it may get more traction. Hope this isn't a faux pas.

I'm getting close to pulling the trigger on a suspension setup for my 2019 2500 CTD. I'm now at the point where I need to decide on a shock and have a few question about corrosion resistance since I live in new england. Daily driver with the occasional romp through the new england trails and dirt roads on the weekend when hunting/shooting/camping. I will be towing a TT around 10k max, but more than likely 6-7k dry weight trailer.

Firstly, King seem to be the top of the pack on terms of shock technology. Both Thuren and Carli both offer multiple packages but notably both companies only offer a Fox 2.0 and King 2.5. I find that to be a sign but I'm also unsure if it's just that King shocks seem to be the sort of jewelry that the desert runner bros like since Fox also offers a 2.5. I read an article (here) that seemed to point to Fox being the better shock overall, so it surprises me that the Kings are the go to. They seem apples to apples so I'm curious of others take on this. My understanding the main difference is that King shocks are rebuildable while the Fox is not and thus you pay a premium for that?

Second, the King is prob overkill for my needs (stated above) but the guy I've been chatting with at Thuren seems to think they would be the best bet for me. Assuming I go with the King recommendation my hope is to protect them for a long life. I have my truck undercoated for the harsh new england winter and try and keep it clean but I'm not out there with a bucket and rag every time it's dirty. I have the option of having the Kings coated (I believe cerakote) for an extra $300 a pair. Should I bother with the coating? Would I be better served with a 3M wrap? I've never spent this much on shocks and it's generally been my regret but by the time I would end up getting ready to spend the cash something would happen and I'd end up in a new vehicle. I don't plan for that to happen this go around so I'd like to plan for the future. That said, I don't feel strongly about spending the extra cash just to turn them black. I can wrap them for far less but would be a little worried about rust even still.

Feedback on shock and/or corrosion resistance is welcome. I did a bit of searching but couldn't find anything concrete.
