Flutter / flapping sound

So over the past couple of months while driving I have heard this random flutter or flapping sound. I thought maybe I had a leaf down in the cowl, windshield wiper area that the wind was making it flap. The thing was this area was clear and clean. While cleaning the truck yesterday I popped the hood to wipe the engine bay down. I think I found the source of the flapping sound. The felt insulation backing of the hood is only secured from the middle forward. The rear has three tabs that fit into slots very loosely. Two of the three tabs were hanging out of their slots. I think this is the source of my annoying flapping sound. Now i need to figure out how to better secure it.

100 mph tape? ;) Have you pulled the fwd push pins to relocate the insulation in the rear tabs? I'd be doing that first before attempting other forms adhesion.

No I have not. I didn’t have time to get a ladder or stool out to work on it yet. I’ll try that it it’s possible before I get too drastic.

You might want to pick up another set of push pins before you do that. When they removed mine to fix the hood flutter it destroys the plastic pins that hold up the insulation. They are cheap and it will keep you from getting more frustrated as the insulation keeps falling from using the used pins.

Any update on what ended up working for this? I have the same issue with the hinge/bottom end of the insulation, where there are not any pins, repeatedly dropping into the engine compartment. The dealer replaced the insulation once, but it’s falling out in the same way again. They suggested drilling new holes in the hood to so we can add additional pins on that end of the insulation, but that seems on the crazy side and, bonus, wouldn’t be under warranty either. Without pins, I’m not sure of what type of adhesive might work.

I noticed this on mine (the falling out, not any noise) when I added underhood lights.

This is a design flaw in the liner and/or attachment. It's already wearing a hole where the EGR valve(?) cable assembly rub on the liner.

Ya the hood liners on these 4 3/4 gens are so flimsy I don’t think it will hold in the mouse nests! On my 05 I popped mine out and it had all kinds in there, even some good sized bones!
