Looking for my first diesel for my business. Found a ‘17 with 76k miles on it. Real question is this: on the info center it shows an idle time of 6471 hrs and drive of 71hrs. Now I realize something is off. To have that many miles with that few drive hours means they drove it over 1000 miles an hr. But is it an excessive amount of idle time? Just trying to educate myself before purchasing. Thanks for the advice

I wouldn't worry about idle time if I could buy a truck that could go 1000 mph. Seriously, the idle and driving hours are obviously being logged incorrectly. I have the same thing on a 5.7 Hemi but in reverse. It says I've only idled it a few hours in 80K+ miles.

They're often wrong in the EVIC. I believe the dealer can pull the actual hours. Not sure if you can get them with a code reader. Perhaps.

As you may be aware, the issue with excess idling in a diesel is cylinder wash/damage and making oil which could reduce bottom end longevity.

That’s what I’ve heard about excessive idling. Any idea when I could start seeing issues and what those issues would be?
