Hey guys,

Just did my first oil change - 9800 KM on the truck. I know there are many threads about when to do the first service.. i just felt like it was time now.

I was going to do the fuel filters at the same time but the shop didn't have them.. they will have them tomorrow but it made me think. Is it overkill to do the fuel filters this early? Or should i just go ahead and do it.

Thanks as usual.

The manual says change fuel filters at 24,000km. It also says the first change should be 24,000km.

I changed my engine oil at 3,000 km. Ive always done very early oil changes on any new vehicle I've purchased.

For the fuel filters, I'll probably go 20,000 km as I know I'm using good quality fuel.

Change em at the same time as the oil that way you do all the service at the same time…. I did my first service at 21,000km monitors were at 14% life left

I took my 2020 in for it first oil change at 15K miles. The next day the "service fuel filter" message came up. 15K frequency for fuel filters? I thought it had to be an error. (I think I did my 5.9 filter every 50K and it was a piece of cake to do). I checked the owners manual and sure enough, they want them changed at that frequency. OK, no problem, I ordered the filters. watched a couple of you-tube videos and did it myself. After dumping a pint of fuel on my face from the chassis filter because it didn't drain all the way and having to do un-natural acts to break the "20 ftlb" cap on the engine filter that the factory torqued, I can report that the job sucks if you don't have a topside creeper. The chassis filter was a little dirty and the engine filter was clean. Is the fuel system really so sensitive to differential pressure across the filter that it requires this frequency? If so, I'm going to do something different like install an aftermarket filter somewhere where its more convenient to service after my warranty is over.

Both filters are easy but yes you should allways change them at max 15k on any non commercial diesel…..

there are a few companys that make filter housings for cat spin on filters they are cheaper and better to change aswell as great filters. I will be doing the swap to mine when warranty is up

I think 15Kmi fuel filter changes are overkill but it depends on the fuel quality. Crappy fuel = more frequent filter changes but I don't see why you would have to change the filters so much more frequently on the newer trucks. As the filter traps dirt it actually traps smaller and smaller particles until it finally gets clogged. Therefore an old filter will not pass dirt to the high pressure pump and the injectors but will eventually restrict the fuel flow resulting in lowered performance or no start at the very end.

Really the front filter could likely go double the rear as the rear collects the most crap but the front are cheap enough to do at the same time
