Hello all. The wife and I just ordered a new TT. Did the specs for a tow vehicle and decided on the RAM 2500 Mega Cab. Dealer says 2019 is closed but 2020 will open sometime next month. This is in prep for retirement in a few years. Will do weekend trips for now. If we like it enough we are talking about going full time.

Congratulations on your new travel trailer and decision to go with the RAM 2500 Mega Cab! Perfect plan for retirement; we just did the same thing. What trailer did you order? We’re on our 2nd Airstream, a 27’ Globetrotter and our 2nd Ram - moved up from a 1500 to a 2500 6.4 and love the combination. My retirement countdown is set for April of 2020 - can’t wait!

Post some photos when you get your truck and trailer! Happy Camping.

You have an Awesome looking set up! We ordered a 2020 International Serenity RB twin in Salsa. Trailer max is 8800 which gives us plenty of excess capacity. Going with the Hemi on the truck as I want the Carrying capacity of over 2000 pounds.

Thanks JohnandDonna, you’re going to love your Airstream and RAM (we sure do)! If you get the chance, visit the Airstream “Mothership” in Jackson Center when your Serenity is coming down the line. We did last April; it’s a once in a lifetime chance. *Call first as they’re moving to the new factory and may suspend tours for a bit.

Regarding the payload, it’s true you’ll gain ~900 lbs. over the Cummins. Unless you’re towing over 10,000 lbs, the 6.4 Hemi and new 8 speed trans are more than enough. We had no problem maintaining speed up the Colorado Rockies this past August. The photo above is from Rocky Mountain National Park, Grand Lake side. The Mega Cab is an awesome way to go. It’s just the two of us plus Toby, a Cairn Terrier so the Crew Cab was enough. But that Mega Cab...

The 3.73 did fine for us with the trailer loaded. In fact, I forgot to turn on the Tow-Haul mode after a fuel stop and noticed my mileage On the computer going up! Turns out the truck was dropping into 8th gear (didn’t in Tow-Haul) and would even go into ECO mode (4 cylinders) occasionally. The 4.10 will raise the RPMs and lower your fuel economy slightly but is extra towing insurance. My experience is the 3.73 is enough. Your mileage may vary :)

Enjoy your new setup!

The new 6.4l with 8 spd is the perfect combination for under 10000lbs.

Very interested to hear more about your trips and if you end up enjoying it enough to go full time.

We camp every weekend from April to October (minus a few for events) and we would love to camp more.

Sounds like you will have a great combination and will be setup well to enjoy all your trips.

Welcome. Thanks for joining us!
