Should know by now not to use a Firestone from the incompetence, myself and others I know, have experienced from them in the past, but all I needed was a TX state inspection on my fairly new 2022 3500 w/21kmi. Waited almost 1 1/2hrs for the only inspector to get done with a wheel alignment. The movie Hitch was on the TV in the waiting area, so I was somewhat entertained. I also had the forums to peruse as I patiently waited for my truck to get pulled in for a quick in and out. Before I go on with the story, let me paint a picture of the weather and conditions.
I'm in the Corpus Christi area. It has been rainy, misty and foggy for the past week. I drive 35 mins one way to work on the interstate in these conditions and my wiper fluid light has been on for several days, not because it's low, but it's dry (I know, I should fill it up), but with that being said, I have no issues with my wiper blades cleaning the grime and mist off the windshield in the rain and mist at hwy speed.
So, truck went in, came out within a few minutes as expected and I step up to pay my $7 and get my "passed" inspection form, but wait for it, that's not the case. I was told my truck failed inspection due to , "Wiper is incapable of adequately cleaning the windshield". The dude at the desk went on to immediately say, they could replace the blades for me so it could pass inspection ($56.23). I said, hold on a minute, you do understand that there is no fluid in the reservoir and what the weather conditions have been this past week and also went on to tell him my daily commute in said conditions. My truck is less than a year old w/21k mi. I get that means not much for wiper blade wear, but I told him all this to build up my case that the blades are perfectly fine and they have cleared the windshield easily, with no streaking or issue. I asked is there a streak in the line of vision? He stated that's not how it works, if they don't adequately clean, they will not pass inspection. He continued, so do you want us to replace your wiper blades. All that came to my mind was, these turds are trying to scam me into buying wiper blades, are they serious!? But, that also came out of mouth. Haha! Anyway, I said lets go look at these blades. Thinking there's prob something dried on the blade I could flick off with my finger. Desk dude, went out to tell the inspector, he dragged his fingers across the blades, did something else out of view and desk dude came back a few minutes later and said that will be 7 bucks. Thought OK, G2G. Nope! Told me if I come back in 14 days or less with new blades and I'd pass inspection. Whaat! I said lets actually go together and look at these blades to see what's up. He said, that's what the inspector noted and even the manager checked and stated, it's not gonna pass. Yet, neither came to speak to me. Only thing I was thinking at this point was, this is just unbelievable what is going on. Told desk dude, who doesn't care, that when I go to another inspection station and my truck passes with the same blades, this store and I are gonna have a bigger issue to deal with than what's taking place right now! Paid walked out to my truck to find a nice big muddy boot print on my rocker panel. Made em come out and clean it. Took pics of my windshield and the store front through my crystal clear windshield. Ran my fingers across the blades, not a nick, a dried bug nor disfigured/warped blade to be found. Absolutely amazed! Took it to another place only to find the inspector left already. Just missed em. Coulda saved myself the trouble if I went there first, but I'm new to the area and FS was closer. I explained the situation to them. First question out of their mouths were, did they try to get you to buy something? Haha! Of course they did. Told me to come back Monday and I'll pass inspection.

Anyone in the CalAllen, Corpus Area, stay away from Firestone Complete Auto Care on 13949 FM 624 Corpus Christi TX 78410. Inspector Joe Deleon is worthless!
If you read all this, thanks for entertaining my post. Just haven't had this happen to me since I was in my late teens, early 20's. Several decades ago! Such a shame there are men that still try to get away with this behavior. They can keep my seven dollars! I will however, be contacting Firestone Corporate or whichever office I can to get it back and make them aware of this stores behavior.

Pics are before and after I used the spittle that was left in my reservoir to wipe the windshield right after inspection. BTW, manager and inspector still didn't care to come out to entertain me while doing this. The same desk dude who came out to clean my muddy rocker panel refused to look up when I asked him if that looked like wiper blades inadequately cleaning a windshield...

Take your truck to Rush Truck Center just down the road next time. I live in the area and work there, our inspectors are fair.

Might do that on Monday. I did go to Western Auto. They were the ones that said come back Mon and I'll pass inspection. Thx!

Firestone is a ****hole, they took advantage of my father numerous times in his last few years of driving when he wasn’t as sharp as he used to be. Shame on them.

I've been to 3 Firestones. One in DFW TX, one in Pineville LA and the store I just visited in Corpus Christi TX. All bad experiences. Have yet to hear anything good from others as well. It's gotta be the culture there and the way they are trained and treated within. Not even decent customer service. They just go through the motions as far as that's concerned. Horrible to hear!

They told my father he needed a timing belt job and charged him 1.5 times what the Toyota dealer would of charged him. I did his last timing belt job but he didn’t want to inconvenience me to do it again, so while he was in for an oil change he had them do it. He was with it enough to ask they put the old parts in the trunk. I was aggravated when he told me what transpired because I knew he wasn’t even due for anther 30k miles so I looked at the part in his trunk and it wasn’t even the brand I used, and the part crossed to a VW belt! Needless to say I dug into his car, they didn’t change a thing and I went back to that shop and raised hell. Full refund and the manager was supposedly going to fire the tech. I doubt any of that happens I think you are right about it being their culture. Prey on the weak and uninformed.

Wow, just wow! Again, even with my experience and being exposed to different types of people and their methods, (I think most of us are) I'm still taken back by how callus and corrupt people can be especially for something so simple.

We had a mechanic move into our rural farming community when I was a kid. He screwed everyone over at least a couple of times. He preyed on the elderly the most. Long story short he eventually ran out of suckers and had to move to a larger neighbouring town. Now his son runs a HD truck shop with the same rep.

It's a shame that his son learned that's the way to conduct business. That family will get theirs in the end. What goes around, comes around.

Screw states that require stupid inspections. I can’t believe a conservative state like TX requires this crap- even CA hasn’t since the late 60’s. Do yourself a favor and register it in a sane state (like SD or MT) with no inspections

I disagree for the simple fact that its cheap and it helps keep garbage off the road

You don’t think there are crooked stations that do phony inspections for extra cash? Of course they do. In CA, there are many who get illegal smogs done for $200 instead of the regular $40. It’s a government overreach who Is rip for fraud. Say no to inspections.

The inspection is not the issue. It's cheap and even though there are shops, inspectors, that bypass they laws and let turds oh the road, you don't see much at all. The issue is the few turd inspectors that try to abuse their limited power as an inspector. Never had any issue in nearly 20yrs living in TX until now. Funny thing is, I'd sweat when I would bring in my 03 LR Disco II I had a few years back or my 88 Chrysler Conquest TSi back in the day. Not even a drop of concern when I took in my 2022 Ram. Go figure...

Oh I agree. Chains like Firestone force their employees to up sell and it leads to issues like this. They likely assume, you have a new 75k truck so you will pay the $55 bribe to move on and get back on the road.

Regardless it’s still an overreach that’s completely unnecessary. We have huge turds of cars here that shouldn’t be on the road but it isn’t a big problem in CA .

That's pretty much the impression I got. Also since diesels just get the safety check, lights and whatnot, he "needed" to find something on a newish truck.

There are always going to be phony inspections but its not as common as the amount if legit inspections that keep crap cars off the road. I agree over reach is never good but here we have so many garbage cars that are still on the road that can never be certified due to rotten frames/ bodys, and blown out suspension parts

Here we only have inspections on commercial vehicles and the amount of stuff we catch that the drivers want to try and weasel out if fixing is insane

So there is some give an take with inspections

One more 'Here's my bone-head repair shop story'. I had a 1985 Subaru Hatchback, went to start it one morning and then put it into reverse - BANG!! I got out and looked under the car and there was a big puddle of fluid forming. I had it towed to a transmission shop in town I figured was good since I'd been hearing their radio adds for years. A couple days later they call me and say they can't find out what's wrong so I need to come get it. I walk into the shop and up to the counter. There were 4 or 5 other customers in the waiting room right there. The tech gives me my keys and repeats they couldn't figure it out. So I walk out to my car, crawl under it (a really tight squeeze) look up using a flashlight and see a 1.5" gaping hole blown out of the transmission. WTF!!! I go back inside the waiting room and ask the counter tech if anyone had even lifted my car up and looked at the frigging tranny. I got really hot, the manager came out and tried to cool me down. I said, "WTH's going on here! You tell me you can't figure out what's wrong with my car, yet any dickhead can see - if they had looked - there's a friggin hole in the tranny you can put your fist in!!" People in the waiting room got really quiet and pretended to not be listening. The manager tried to elbow me outside away from the public and basically brushed me off as if nothing had happened. Needless to say I had to call another tow truck, haul my car to another tranny shop where they installed a rebuilt one. Back in my parking lot I found the chunk of tranny that blew out of the case; a gear had exploded and tore through to the outside. You can be sure there was a lot more said in that waiting room other than the couple of sentences I wrote here. I've had some pretty shoddy work done over the decades by some shops, but never such a blatant lack of professionalism as that tranny shop displayed.
