Hey guys. I’m thinking of switching to 35’s as I’ve had a dedicated studded winter tire in the stock size and am amazed at the damage/wear a 7k pound vehicle inflicts on them. I’m also not certain that they actually work better than a decent all terrain.

I’m looking at options I can run year round and something that is branded by the mountain/snowflake symbol for winter traction.

General AT/X or Falken Wildpeak AT3/W.

I’ve had the AT/X on my 01 Cummins and really liked it. Does anyone have any experience with the Falken? Looking mainly for snow/ice experience. Summer/mud/rocks/sand information doesn’t really concern me.

I've got the wildpeaks on my 1500. I have 50k on them and they are still half tread or better. I love them in everything except snow. Not impressed at all but on this particular truck, I can only compare to the Goodyear SRAs that came on it. My last truck had dynapros and they were much better in snow but that was a different truck. I'm going with something else when I get my 2500.

I’m running wildpeaks on my dually after ditching the nexens. Duallys are known to be a little squirrelly in the snow but earlier this winter drove around 400 miles (all day) in snow 6~8” deep on the highway and never lost traction. Course I was driving to the road conditions 45~55 mph. Pretty happy with them.

I also run the AT3/W on my half ton, this is my second set on that truck with 175,000 miles. I like them so much I was going to put them on my 2500 but I went with the more aggressive M/T's. I'm happy with both, it seems sometimes the difference in traction is weather it's a wet snow or dry snow, they both do better in a wet snow IMO.

I really liked the At3/w on my Chevy Duramax, and on my Jeep Gladiator also. I'll be switching my 2500 Cummins over to them when the transforce wear out.

I have them on my Jeep . Unless its ice they get around good in 2wd so am considering them for my 2500. I was going to go with Toyo open country 3's but not so sure now.

I'll probably drop down from the grabber X3 to the atx when the X3's wear out although I love the tires. Just want something that last longer. I would consider the falkens back at the price they were when they came out with that tire. They used to be one of the best tires out there and one of the cheapest. Now they are still a good tire but they want more for them than BFG wants for their KO2's.

I use a 37" Falken AT3/W as my dedicated winter tire. Traction on ice is acceptable, traction in snow is excellent. Good traction when wet, the tread pattern is pretty deep and resists hydroplaning. I do quite a bit of winter driving in the mountains and they have handled deep snow quite well. So if you get caught in those inbetween times with early winter or late winter, you will still be fine without your snow tires.

I can't comment on their performance in dry / wet offroad conditions. I expect if you deal with alot of mud, you will be disappointed due to the closely packed tread pattern. Otherwise performance will probably be great.

Road manners and noise are excellent and very minimal.

I'm currently running the AT3W 37" on my 2500 and have been very happy with their overall performance. Not a huge fan of the look (wish it looked a hair more aggressive, and looks small for it's size) but the performance has been amazing considering it's size and width in the winter months. I can't comment on the general as I've not owned any yet but thus far the Falkens are probably my favorite all season tire.
