When I eventually damage that parking sensor area, I already have plans to relocate the sensors in the factory bumper. A little drilling with a step drill and some new inserts for the sensors will do just fine.
I didn't want to wait until too late, rip the thing off as well as wiring etc...leave sensors and such somewhere out there while the screen lights up. Elking this year left the driver side dam and passenger side dam/bumper "cap" beat to heck, all caved in.
I thought about following your plan, but glad I didn't after removing the rear cause a real bumper could be useful and greatly improved departure. The factory bumper became akin to a wet noodle after removal, made of the same as a Rubbermaid trash can it seems.
This bumper used rubber grommets to secure the sensors, I thought that was kinda crappy until seeing that they held them rock solid. The factory sensor "clips" are integrated, plastic welded part of the dam so they can't be reused.
Betcha you could source some grommets easy-peasy. Drill, put the grommet in the hole, a little spit on the sensor and shove them in. The plastic drilling will be easy, for sure
The outer sensor clips were off-set to compensate for the angles in the dam, allowed them to point straight back, might be tricky to get that to happen drilling the factory rear.
I leave the parking junk off full time and had never seen it in operation, so not sure if the system is still perfect and don't care.
