Engine and trans temp rising in stop and go traffic

Has anyone noticed their engine and trans temp rising in high idle or in stop and go traffic? Interesting thing is if the AC mode is enabled, regardless of whether its actually cooling or not, the trans and engine temps drop. like 185 on the engine and 160 on the trans. (Aisin trans btw.) I wonder if other experience this or whether there is a TSB out for this?
 
I may be way off as I don’t have my truck yet but On a precious vehicle I had it would do the exact same thing. It had an elec cooling fan and it would only come on when AC was turned to on.
 
192 degrees on the trans. 195-205 on the engine. engine comes up and down as traffic moves a little. trans temp will also rise if car is in park and high idle. i have an apt on Monday. hopefully its just software issue. As soon as i turn the AC on, the trans temp drops to 163.

zero heating issues while the truck is moving, even while towing a 16k gooseneck.

Little warm for the trans - should be 158-176. I've seen close to 205 engine temps but that was while lugging 8500 lbs up a 8 percent grade.
 
I wonder if those new active grill shutters could be affecting the air flow across your radiator. Did you check to see if they are operating correctly? If those aren’t operating and they stay closed that would definitely cause your trucks temp to rise during stop and go traffic. Just a thought.
 
My engine oil temp stays above 210, even on 30-40 deg days. Seems kind of hot doesn't it? I've seen it go up to 220 in normal driving on warmer days (60s to 70s). No towing and no hot rodding. This is for a 6.4 Hemi

yes that sounds hot, but i have the cummins, so i dont have any first hand experience with the 6.4.

Can't speak for the 6.4 but my old Eagle 5.7 would typically run 200-210 oil temp. Upwards of 250 while towing uphill. Trivia for sure but not much help to the OP.
 
I just picked up the truck from the dealer and they did some updates to it, but said that 192 F on trans is not overheating and within normal operating range. AC will bring the temps down as others have previously mentioned already.
