E-85 threshold?

Anyone here know the % ethanol content you can run on the stock fuel system before it leans out past where the injector pwm's run out of bandwidth, & throw a CEL?

So far I only ran a 15% blend on the highway, but I expect the limit is closer to 40%

Anyone try more than 15% in their 6.4L?
 
40% is pretty high without tuning and fuel pump to support it. You’re probably pretty close at 15%
 
Hmm... I find that hard to believe. The old 5.9L magnum 2nd gen I had would run at 30% even when towing 8k...
I'll play around then I guess. I know both of my 2005 2UZ-FE's & the old J35 can run about 40%, but both power gains and the added fuel stability run out around 30%, so I don't bother going that high unless I know the outside temps will sit around 105 for several days.
 
I routinely run ~25% with no issues. But it seems like E15 is the sweet spot. I just like the solvent properties of E.

Noticed that the ECU is really touchy on knock retard. Was pulling 4 degrees of timing with straight 87 under load. Threw enough E in to get me to 89, and it almost immediately added 4 degrees back in.

How do you see/know when the ECU adjusts the timing?
 
AlfaOBD or Torque. In this case, I was using AlfaOBD and plotting it out. You can see the knock retard. You can actually feel it, which led me to pulling out the OBDII and logging, confirming what the butt dyno was saying.
Thanks freebird for the input; I have a funny towing story where I learned the hard way that lower octane fuel results in significantly less timing. Empty it's hard to notice, but pulling a load it's night & day... that one time is in the top 5 list of times I've never been more mad at myself.

I just like to keep the whole injection system clean, and the added octane rating is icing on the cake. Occasionally come across some sketchy fuel.
 
If you're still under warranty I wouldn't run anything higher than 15%.
