Does the 6.4L turn off at a stop like so many new cars?

..and then the starter engages and starts the engine the second one takes his foot off the brake? I rented a car a month ago and found that feature to be absolutely obnoxious. Now I hear it all the time at stop lights with new cars - the sound of an engine starting up when the light turns green. I bet the replacement starter industry is going to go gang busters when the number of burned out starters skyrockets.

Do these 6.4L gas engines do that too? God, I hope not. I just thought of that a minute ago and panicked so I thought I'd better ask as I patiently wait for my order to show D-1 status.

No, not yet, anyway. I will say this though- the 5th gen 1500 with start stop (e-torque) is by far smoother at it than any other vehicle I’ve driven with it, and can’t hardly tell it’s doing it. Also, it does not use a traditional starter, and does not wear out like you would think.

Here in canada every gas vehicle as of 22 needs to come with it but the HD vehicles are exempt, i had a rental ford truck with it first thing i did everytime starting it was hit the button to disable it as it was very annoying

I believe the 6.4 Hemi gets the cylinder deactivation in place of the start/stop.

Is it easy to disable MDS on the 6.4L Hemi in a 2500?
Yes. Use either tow/haul mode, or press the ERS gear limit switch so it displays 8 (or whatever other gear) as the highest gear to limit to.

EDIT: I answered “yes” to your question if it’s easy. I suppose that’s subjective. It’s easy for me to do what I mentioned, but apparently, across the ram forums, that’s too hard (to push other buttons besides the start button on every startup), and people cry about having to do that to disable MDS.

amen. I have to admit on my 2020 I can not tell when it is activated or not. there is zero difference in smoothness or exhaust sound but if I want it off I just hit the - button on the steering wheel.

My 2022 doesn't. I hated that feature on my 2020 1500. When you're at a stop light and the engine cuts off your AC compressor also stops.
