Do you do your own Engine oil and Filter changes?

Considering the filter is in engine bay now I'm curious how many use a pump to remove old oil or still drop drain. What about the dealer?

I paid a Yamaha dealer who repowered my boat to change oil (first service) on 2 outboards. He came to house and did while on my lift. When I checked the security cams he never pulled cowl and used a pump to suck oil out. I know outboards are different animal but I do know a few other mfg (like Mercedes) no longer do plug and use suction hose to change oil. Is Ram going this same direction????
At one point I purchased a pump for that purpose. Sadly, the hose diameter was too large for the dipstick tube so I dropped that idea.

I have changed the oil in my 2025 three times--when I removed the old cartridge oil filter there was only a VERY SMALL amount of old oil in the bottom of the filter housing. Meaning it drains out on its own and there is not enough old oil in the bottom to hurt anything.
Now when I put the New filter back in, I do use a small tip funnel to fill up the housing with new oil before putting the cap back on.
(the new oil filter location on the 2025+ is a little easier but I never had any issues removing/installing oil filters on the previous location---just go over the front passenger tire with oil filter wrench--not a big deal---just lay an old cloth on the frame--so when you pull out the old filter a little will spill out when you lay it down to slide it out)

You may have thought I was thinking of old oil left in the filter housing. I was talking about not draining oil using oil pan drain plug and sucking oil out from dipstick tube not having to even go under the vehicle anymore. I'm not a fan of this but I'm old school.

ok..I get it....I'm old skool too :),,,
I am not a fan of sucking oil out of dipstick---I am very familiar with that method because I have done it for years on my Inboard Sterndrive ski boat--I don't have a choice. One of the issues with this is that I am concerned it is not getting all the old oil out of the bottom of the oil pan.
Crawling under your truck to take out oil plug--this just gives you time to check things underneath while there!

Agree 100%.

Used the pump for years on my lake boat (20+ years?) and motor never seized. Other parts rusted and had other issues, but no motor or bearing problem.
