Do both fuel filters need to be changed when the filter gauge indicates the filter life is 0%?

I was not able to find the answers in the manual or the rest of the internet.

Though I did find out part #s and how-tos on this page: https://hdrams.com/forum/index.php?threads/fuel-filter.1518/# So if I find out I need to change both, I am covered.

I am wondering if the fuel filter life indicator is referring to both filters or just one of them?

Thanks.

Thanks Brutal!

Any chance you could link to where you took that capture from?

The manual I downloaded from Mopar.com did not have a complete service schedule. And the intervals are 20,000 miles.

Here are the 2 pages under "Service and Maintenance" from the manual I downloaded from this link:
Which downloaded this doc:

I guess the 2019 manual is different.

But given your'e showing a schedule that includes spark plugs, I would imagine that's the gas engine pages, not the diesel.

It's on Pg 388 of the 2020 Owner's manual PDF I have.

it's just me but I'd recommend changing both anyway, with capless and the occasional crappy fuels it's just a safe play.

do you use diesel kleen and bio kleen? only owned one other diesel vehicle but contamination is a big deal with diesel....

no science, just idiot wisdom..

I scrubbed the 2019 manual and it does NOT include any maintenance plan outside of what I posted above.
The only mention of the word "diesel" is in the fuses section.
The cover page says RAM 2500/3500, so I fully expect it to have all the relevant info. I don't know if I am missing something or if it is a terrible mistake by them.
Either way, I have the 2020 manual to help me out now. Thanks again.

@zhauler
I am not familiar with diesel kleen or bio kleen.
You mentioned "capless". What does that mean or refer to?

the capless filler neck design I mean... there's just a flap, no removable cap on the tank...

dirt and stuff can get on the little flap and fall in the tank when you go to fill up..

look up "power service diesel kleen" it's recommended by Cummins as a fuel additive to help keep the diesel fuel in good condition, as well as the tank and lines.

Aha capless! I got it now. I am not sure what design benefits this has, but the vulnerability of being exposed to dirt and stuff seems like too much of a risk for whatever the benefits are.
Thanks for educating me on the diesel kleen. I will be looking into it for sure.

On another diesel board, a person took the filters apart after every fuel filter change. Both were MOPAR filters. The second filter never had any visible signs that it caught anything. The first filter appeared to catch it all. Perhaps thereare things caught and not visible to the unaided eyes?

But I change both.
