It’s easy. If you already have an auto dim mirror, the new mirror will plug right in. The CHMSL with camera will swap right in, and you connect it to the mirror using a fakra z female to female coax cable. No BCM programming required.Time to start sniffing around to see if we can retrofit the new digital rear view camera on the 2019 trucks.
Kind of. The CHMSL has two cameras- the usual downward facing cargo camera, and a straight back facing camera for the mirror. The digital rear view mirror and that camera is it’s own separate system completely disassociated with anything else on the truck, linked together by a single coax cable. The camera is digital, so an analog camera, such as the one normally used for the aux camera won’t work with the mirror. You can do what you’re thinking, but you’d have to probably use that specific camera that is used in the CHMSL. I’m not sure if one of the surround view cameras or cargo camera would work with the mirror monitor. An example would be- the digital backup camera on a surround view truck is different than the digital backup camera on a non surround viewing truck, even though they both use coax cable. The CVPM can’t process the image of a regular digital backup camera, and the radio can’t process the image of a surround view digital backup camera if it is used without the CVPM. So, basically, you probably won’t be able to use just any digital camera, but only that one made for the mirror. Right now, I only know the part number of the digital mirror for a DT truck, and I’m not positive if it fits the metal mount on an HD windshield. So what you are saying is that the mirror is directly connected to the cargo camera? I have the 360 package and all the bells and whistles with a few exceptions. Any info on a mopar part number for the mirror? What I was thinking is to have it display the aux camera on the back of the trailer.

I wonder if it would be possible to move the camera to the rear bumper. I plan on adding a topper and it would be nice to still have a rear view.Kind of. In a nutshell, you can put that camera wherever you want. Just use a fakra z female to female rg174 coax cable long enough to relocate the camera wherever you want. You’re only limited by your imagination on how you want to mount it.I wonder if it would be possible to move the camera to the rear bumper. Where do you find all of your detailed information? I would love to know some of the things you know.In a nutshell, you can put that camera wherever you want. Does the digital mirror only default to the CHMSL camera or can you select tailgate view. Any idea on cost.In a nutshell, you can put that camera wherever you want. I don’t know, or can’t find any 2021 HD part numbers yet. To put it in perspective, though, the CHMSL with only cargo camera is ~$600, and the digital rear view mirror for the DT is ~$475.Does the digital mirror only default to the CHMSL camera or can you select tailgate view. Any idea on cost.
Thanks

what is the main reason having the camera in the mirror and not using the one display ? if the camera works in the display why would you want it in the mirror ?
got it. Thanks.Different (separate) cameras, different points of view.
The Digital mirror can be adjusted for up/down angle and zoom.
The cargo cam is fixed, can only zoom down into the bed and can't be kept on (unless using NAViKS).
I’m still waiting on the CHMSL part number, but we ran into issues with some guys trying to get this to work on the 2019-2020 DTs. The first person to swap the digital rear view mirror in had a 2021. He plugged it in, and the image fired right up, giving us a false positive that it would “just work” for anyone. Then, a few guys with 2020s installed it, and got nothing. I had someone with the digital mirror remove the lin bus wire from the mirror to see if the image would stop displaying, and it did, proving that there is a message being used that makes it work. Question is, is it a setting in the BCM that just isn’t in the list on AlfaOBD yet, or, since the 2021 install just worked, is it the actual BCM firmware that makes it capable.Reviving this thread.
Jimmy, any update on possible parts to add this?
On page 47 of the 2020 owners manual there is mention of the Digital mirror. The description says it is a view from the tailgate camera and works in reverse. The picture on that page shows that the image is only the left half of the mirror not the entire mirror. I suppose you may be able to keep it on with Naviks device but doesn’t really looks that exciting to me since the image is so small. Thanks for the update!
Not you in particular, because the feature isn’t really as heavily advertised as other new features have been, but a lot of people are misunderstanding the digital rear view mirror’s intended purpose. The digital rear view mirror uses a rear facing camera on the CHMSL, and is intended to mimic what you see...when you look in the rear view mirror. So, if you don’t like seeing the headrests in the mirror, or if you have a bunch of stuff stacked up in the rear seat blocking the rear window, you’ll still see exactly what you would see in the rear view mirror as if the window wasn’t blocked. The camera image in the mirror can be left on indefinitely, and can be turned on and off with the mirror lever switch whenever you want. The image displayed is only a piece of the “whole” camera image, so it can be adjusted left, right, up, down.
