I used my digital inside rear view mirror for the first time after installing the camera on my 5th wheel trailer. It worked fine but after 4 hours of towing a warning tone and Icon showed up on the mirror. I believe it looked like a sun. The mirror was too hot to touch. I switched to regular mode and it cooled off and seems to be working ok. Has anyone had a similar issue? 2022 3500 with factory mirror.

Why aren’t you using the digital mirror more often?

It’s not common for my mirror to be off and it’s never given me a warning.

I recently added the camera and cable to my 5th wheel trailer in order to see what is behind the 5th wheel. That is the only time I have used the digital mirror as it is not needed for non towing driving.

Well aside from your overheating issue the DRVM using the camera in the 3rd brake light is a major improvement in rear visibility over the mirror thru the back seat.

Use it for a while and see if it overheats again.

Thanks, good advice. I will try it without the trailer camera plugged in and see if any issues.

I had an issue with the digital mirror on my '23. I live in Phoenix so it's very hot in the summer... the mirror would get extremely hot to the touch and started malfunctioning with distorted images (though it never explicitly showed an overheating message). I had the mirror replaced on warranty and has been fine after that. It made it through the following summer without an issue.

You might have a defective mirror.

I also agree that using it with the 3rd brake light camera is a massive improvement. In nearly all lighting conditions I find it preferable to the regular mirror.
