Did ram just lower towing ratings for 25 and 3500 vehicles?

Was just watching the fast Lane truck channel on YouTube. They’re 2500 test trucks towing capacities all got lowered going to check my 3500 anybody else hear this? Just checked my 3500 towing stayed the same. my 2019 2500 Lonestar towing capacity stayed the same, I no longer have it but wanted to check.

You mean what shows on the website based on your VIN?

I would think if there was any dispute the sticker on the door of your truck would be the source of truth. Careful what you believe on YouTube :-)

Nowhere on the door does it say how much my trucks can tow you have to go to the website put your Vin in their towing capacity chart.
 
In the video they are using the towing capacity lookup by VIN # tool on Ram's official web site (https://www.ramtrucks.com/towing/towing-guide.html#/landing/bytowing). That tool now shows different towing capacity numbers than what it did before and also conflicts with what is published in the official Stellantis charts. I tried it myself for my '22 3500 and it did go down from 34,100 to 33,877. Something isn't right.
 
My 2020 HO tow rating went down on the VIN lookup.

Unsure if the mess was on the early or late numbers.

Honestly, I think someone didn't subtract the trim/accessories correctly from the GCWR on the early numbers but I would need to crunch the numbers.

Your tow rating should be GCWR-curb weight.
 
My 3500 SO Cummins srw stayed the same. I also saw the video and checked mine again on the ram website, same as it always has been. Just over 20,000 lbs towing rating.

My 2020 stayed the same. Must be the color!
 
Mine also went down. However, based on the low payload ratings of the 2500s it would be hard to achieve the max weight tow rating using the old numbers. These numbers seem more accurate using a 10K GVWR, even though we all know these trucks should be rated at 11-12K.
 
Mine is the same, but honestly they haven’t changed for anyone unless the GCWR changed. The website likely had a math error on it.

For those that had it change, did your max payload change too?

There are minor discrepancies on the VIN lookup guide and the tow charts anyways. For example my GCWR is 33,610lbs. Max tow on the website and chart is 25,120lbs, which means I should have a curb weight of 8,490. Chart states curb weight is 7,974lbs (lowest possible for cab/bed/drivetrain), but the door sticker payload is 3,850 so my actual original curb weight is 8,450. It’s only a 40lb error on the website, but the charts are missing a possible 516 lbs of towing capacity.

Yes, it’s semantics as I’ll hit RAWR/GVWR long before GCWR but how hard is it to do the proper math.

It’s hard on any vehicle to hit the max tow rating. It takes an empty truck, no accessories even, and a trailer with minimum tongue/pin weight. It’s just very difficult to obtain.

My 2500 Bighorn’s 2020 with 4.10s payload and towing capacity are the same from when I first looked them up in last year.

Payload 2822 lbs
Towing 16620 lbs
 
My 21 2500 Cummins went from 20,000 max tow to 17,840 I only ever tow up to 14,000lbs so it’s not a huge deal for me but it’s still kinda shady. My plenty of wiggle room is now not quite as big.

Mine stayed the same, and MC's don't have the most incredible towing numbers anyway. 1,850 payload / 13,410 towing. I only need about 9.5k though, so not really a concern for me.
 
Looks like mine changed both in CCC and towing. Seems what I paid for is not what I now have (received)….

If I maxed my payload, I'd be closer to the new claimed max tow, yet still under.

Number from the scales, I'm ~850lb under my max payload. I'm only pulling ~16K so way under.
