Trying to decide between the Demco and the Pull rite 5th wheel slider hitch. For those that have used either can you share your thoughts and experience with them. Also, the gross trailer weight is 11,600 so I'm thinking the 18k hitch would be more than sufficient. Let me know what you think. Thanks

I had a Pull Rite some years back. It was an automatic slider and worked very well. The only issue was that it required a special plate mounted to the kingpin. I learned that different kingpins have different sizes and require different size adapter plates when pulling multiple 5ers.
For that reason I purchased a Curt Q20 manual slider this time around. Additionally our Cougar doesn’t appear to really need a slider so it’s intended more as a rescue device than a regular use kind of thing.
We were in an awkward site once - sliding the hitch all the way back made it much easier to hook up at an angle then pull up onto the camp road.
I’ve never used Demco but they don’t seem to have the best reputation.

I had a Demco 18k... 3 trucks ago I think. It worked well. I can't say I put a ton of miles on it - but it never had an issue, seemed well built, and the guides to grab the fifth wheel hitch worked great - no adapter needed.

We have the Pullrite slider. I considered both the Pullrite and Demco and choose the Pullrite because of its mechanical simplicity and very low maintenance. We are very happy with it and have no worries about wiping out the truck cab or the tailgate/RV front on tighter turns. You will need a capture plate on the pinbox to actuate the slider. We have had a Morryde pinbox and now, a Curt FlexAir pinbox, and the capture plate install was very simple.

On the RV forums, you’ll run across people who say you don’t need it and yet, every so often, someone wipes out their truck cab. I don’t want to worry about it. There is enough going on when maneuvering a big RV into a tight spot without worrying about the RV hitting the truck.

I have the Demco 18K and am very happy with it. My trailer GVWR is 10280. I preferred it over the Pullrite because the attachments are to the hitch and not the pin box. That allows anyone to pull my 5er, if necessary, without the need for any attachments. If I wish to pull a different 5er it is just a matter of adjusting the two rails on the hitch. For most 5ers I don't believe any adjustment would be necessary. It is a little tricker to hitch up than with a regular hitch as you need to be fairly straight when backing into the pin box and at the correct height. Over time I have found it to be quite easy.

I used a Superglide before making the switch to Gen Y. The only issues I really had were needing to be fairly straight on when hooking up (within 10 degrees of the trailer) and when starting from a stop in some situations would result in the slide sliding back very hard (just the right angle of the turn when starting - a few times, nothing too often, but very jarring) during turns from a stop. I switched because I got tired of dealing with the hitch. I have 3 spare capture plates now if anyone needs one lol.
