DEF Tank Replacement for 1 Sensor???

So my 2022 is in the shop waiting on a new DEF tank. Its going to be about 60 days of wait for a new DEF tank. I ask why a non-leaking tank has to be replaced and they say: the sensor thats bad is not serviceable. THE WHOLE TANK HAS TO BE REPLACED FOR A SENSOR AND THE TANK IS NOT STOCKED.

Now tell me what kind of a car company sells a vehicle without readily available parts. Imagine your fuel sending unit required replacing the whole tank.

Now I will be making at least 3 monthly payments without using the truck - this is costing our business so much its sad.

POINT OF POST: has anyone else had to experience this? Is it really going to be 2 months? I've already been out of a truck for about a month going between dealerships that couldn't diagnose the problem. This new awesome dealer diagnosed it but now Stellantis doesn't have the part to a current model vehicle???? @RamCares

For the record I think the tank is 57009088AC and perhaps thats an updated part...sensor should have been serviceable instead of this disaster.
 
welcome to current day vehicles. as they roll new vehicles off the line every day it still takes 2 months to get a transmission, or any other part lol.

i personally have never looked at the tank other than seeing it from looking under the truck. cant imagine the sensor cant be replaced.

For the record I think the tank is 57009088AC and perhaps thats an updated part...sensor should have been serviceable instead of this disaster.

Did you ask them if they checked other dealer stock or other Mopar parts distributors, I ran a search Mopar 57009088AC and found multiple Mopar distributors showing in stock. I had a similar situation with a part on a previous Ram truck, they said the factory west coast warehouse was on backorder etc. I did some searching and found the part in state at a Mopar Parts distributor and informed the dealer of that, they ordered it from that source.

This doesn’t sound right to me. All of the sensors in the DEF tank are, as far as I know, completely contained within the DEF sending unit. That unit is an all-in-one drop in unit that handles DEF heating, pumping, level reading, and quality sensing all in one. Those sending units can be purchased and installed independently of the tank. It’s accessed from the bottom of the tank. The tank itself shouldn’t have to be replaced unless it’s leaking. See item # 17 in the diagram below:IMG_8365.pngIMG_8366.png

57009088AC Is coming back as a “module bracket” and but all the pictures show the tank assembly.

The tank has no reason to be changed to my knowledge.

now that being said there is an updated pump and what not that my 19 was recalled for, i have not had it done but they mentioned a new tank so it could be they are looking to put the updated pump in your truck and require a new tank to do so?

I hit a deer back in July in my ‘24 3500 with 1300 miles on the clock. My dealer also has a body shop, so hauled it there. Estimate around $20k…and their best guess on backordered parts arrival is now mid-October. By the time repairs are done, I’ll likely have been without a brand-new truck for four months. It’s infuriating, to say the least. After a lifetime of Fords, I decided to try a Ram. Man, how I’m regretting that decision…

I really don't know specifics and this third dealer has been amazing (particularly given no parts available apparently). I did see that there are dealers showing stock this week - this is something I will tell the dealer but really I shouldn't have to do that... The dealer that charged me and sent me on my way should have corporate take a deep look at their service department and particularly the service manager who told me they have to charge me because if I didn't do my own oil changes and let them do the oil changes they would plug in and have fixed this long ago (the guy was just making things up and gaslighting). Anyway I see something on the top of the tank. Seems to be something with a plug built into the tank. It doesn't look like a vent to return line connection but I really don't know. Again I am running on limited knowledge and won't know more until the truck is done. I am going to message you @RamCares right now.

We used to get the def header (sending unit) for replacement but at some point we started getting whole tank assemblies. I don't know why. Construction equipment with Cummins engines.
 
I don't care if they replace the entire truck because of the sensor. What I would like to emphasize is that an almost $95,000 vehicle should be serviced with priority and excellence. At these prices we are at Mercedes/Porsche prices. I've had G wagens and Porsche 911's - when they go in to the shop the shop mooooooves to get it back out. In the case of my Laramie, 2 dealers told me "we don't have a diesel tech," which, to me means they need to train all techs on the diesel heavy duty powertrain diagnostics. I've never owned a Ford or Chevy diesel - had one 1991 GMC gas - but I will say that I expect that all Chevy and Ford dealers can service the Duramax and Powerstroke.
 
In case this helps a future owner the correct part number is not what I had in my first post. The correct part we are waiting on is 57009088AD. A google search of that part number shows nothing - not even a Mopar site comes up. Perhaps why I have to wait another month for it to arrive? Any help on the correct part number would be awesome.
 
xxxAD is just a sub part number.

The base part number 57009088 is still valid and what you would search for.

So either Mopar has updated the tank and doesn't have stock or show up in all the online etailers' sites, or the dealer is ordering a part that doesn't yet exist.

Mopar has updated from AC. I can buy all the AC I want but they have to wait for AD. Not finding any reference to the AD part online makes me think I either have the wrong number or this is going to be a longgggggg wait. Makes me think this part hasn’t even been made yet lol
 
So in case this helps another owner...the new DEF tank fixed my truck! Our problems started in August, 2 dealers didn't diagnose what it was, third dealer hit the nail on the head. The part number to the new tank is slightly different than I posted above. If you need the latest tank do not buy the one that ends in AC - latest tank is 57009086AD.

Did they ever tell you what the root cause was? Did you have a code associated with it? Curious because I'm chasing a P218F after the DEF injector was replaced, wondering if it's a line, pump or tank issue.

The root cause was the sensor that is built into the tank. My code was P207F. The good dealer that finally fixed my truck actually checked that my DEF was correct quality, then they tested the injector, and then they finally determined if those two were good then the sensor in the tank is giving incorrect signal. Your "no DEF flow" code make me think you have a faulty pump. There might be a way to test the pump using Alfaobd but I have never even tried to plug Alfaobd into my truck so I have zero knowledge whether it can be tested on there.
