Just bought a new Laramie 2500 Cummins, dealer agreed to throw in power steps as a part of the deal. Now saying its not possible to install.
Can this be true? I mentioned to him it is an option when building out a Laramie on the Ram website and he is saying can only be done at time of build. Mind is blown....

Get them to throw in for an AMP setup. It won't be factory, but will get you close.

But is it true they can’t just install the factory power steps? Assumed it was relatively plug and play for a service department.

Check @Gondul ‘s link above. It seems to require full wiring harness replacements and an additional control module. Looks like AMPs may be your only option (which worst case occupy your OBDII or you can buy their piggyback harness to alleviate that). Your sales person was saying what he could to make a sale. Hold him to it and at least get them to install the AMPs for you.

Good advice from you guys as usual.
What is everyone’s general thoughts on that wheel to wheel fixed steps? They said they would install those for me instead and they appear only $100 less from Ram. Sort of makes the truck look more rugged but I’ve always had power steps so not sure how I feel about it.
Any experience? Thoughts on the use as well as the looks?

If you have a long bed, I'd do the wheel-wheel.

While I like my fancy power steps, even the addition of an AMP side step doesn't really help accessing the bed as it's at the very front of the bed. After figuring out how to secure the ATV in mine, I kind of wish I had the wheel-wheel steps for that. task

I've got the chrome wheel to wheel on mine. I like being able to step up and grab stuff out of the tray in my tool box or pull the lock on a 5th wheel hitch. And I think they look pretty sharp on the brown truck. I thought about the power steps but decided on the wheel to wheel......nothing to go bad or short out. I quit trusting electric steps that night I stepped out of my motorhome to walk the dog one night about 11 PM after a thunderstorm and took a LONG step down. Guess the rain had shorted them out and they retracted. Took about a week for the bumps, scratches, and bruises to go away and the swelling in my ankle to go down. Funny thing about expecting those steps to be there.....if they ain't a fella can go ass over teakettle and hurt himself.

Alcohol makes my RV steps disappear.

I put the Leverne Omega II's on mine. I'm liking them so far.

I like the look of those!! I just have the standard running boards, and really want to upgrade to the wheel to wheel...

A deployable step just in front of the tire would be fabulous...

Of course I went searching after I posted this and found this...

I have that installed. It's two feet from the rear wheel...

Short bed guys = win
Long bed guys = lose

It might be possible to retrofit but would require nutserts into the bed support closer to the wheel and a custom support bar because it's not open on the end like the front one and also custom bracket to tie into the forward spring hanger as there's no vertical panel support to attach the lower end of the AMP bracket like there is near the front of the bed. You would probably have to see the install to get what I'm at.

I was wondering the same thing and noticed that when you select power deployable steps on the Ram site, it makes you select the Laramie 2 package. It looks like that is a requirement. Did you happen to choose the Laramie 1 package?
