Dash Cam install

I did a quick and dirty dash cam install - realized I need a few more bits to really clean it up but figured I’d post my “how to” as I did it in case it hasn’t been said before. I used a VIOFO A119 V3 camera and a VIFO HK3 wiring kit from a prime day sale.

1. Disconnect battery negative (you’ll be pulling the pillar with a curtain airbag inside.

2. Above and left of where the steering column enters the firewall (above brake pedal) there are 2 15mm nuts on studs holding a plate on. Remove these nuts and plate.

3. Feed your power wires through the hole leaving lots of extra for routing in engine bay (my supplied power adapter sadly was lacking in this department hence I need to go back)

4. For my quick and dirty and to avoid undue strain I added electrical tape and a small adhesive pad to the firewall to remove the sharp edge where the wires pass through. If you have a grommet (I did not) you can install that here but make sure it’s as water tight as possible.

5. Inside the cab remove the driver side speaker cover and pillar trim (2 10mm bolts on the pillar)

6. Fish a wire down to the cab floor through the big opening you now have near the interior firewall.

7. Fasten the power wire to the factory wiring ensuring you steer clear of the curtain airbag.

8. Tuck the wiring into the headliner up to the dash cam.

9. After securing all the wiring replace the panels opposite order of removal

10. Run the wiring through your engine bay to the fuse box and use an add-a-circuit fuse system (mico2 style) to plug into the fuse box.

My system has an ACC, BATT and ground. I have a 2022 PW and used fuses 91 (ACC) and 55 (BATT).

11. Secure all wiring in engine bay and triple check all your connections.

12. Enjoy your somewhat redneck dash cam install.

Lots of places you can improve my methods but I lacked a few extras. I see lots of posts about tying into the rear view mirror for power but this wiring kit comes with a battery sensor that turns the parking mode off when the battery drops to a set voltage (you get to choose from 12.2, 12.4, 12.6, and 12.8 I believe). That sensor wouldn’t fit up in the mirror and I’d have way too much wire to stash away.

Hope this helps someone!
