Cracked weld?

Anyone else have a problem with a cracked weld on a new truck. 2020 Ram 3500 and had it less than a year and had a rim let go at the weld. Now the dealer's service dept is acting like it will take a act of god to replace. They want me to bring in the truck and take pictures of the truck and the rim and send a report up the chain to see if they will warranty it. Problem is, I rarely get home during the week and on the weekends am hooked to a 40' loaded gooseneck trailer and really don't like dropping a loaded trailer. Had the rim with me when I picked up the new one I ordered when I was on the road. But just seeing the rim wasn't good enough. I have to bring the truck in so they can take pictures of the truck? I guess this is the reason I haven't heard good things about RAM service. To many hoop's to jump thru. I had no problem buying the one I ordered but figured RAM would do the right thing and order another for a warranty replacement.
 
Well that rim could have come off any truck, I'm sure yours didn't but people try and pull fast ones all the time and this is why the dealers are digging deeper and deeper on warranty repairs now days. Probably want to make sure the truck wasn't in a accident either (which would be an insurance issue). Sucks but can't say I blame them.

I do understand, but these rims are specific to 2019 and newer dually's. If the rim was damaged I could understand but there is absolutely no external damage.
 
Like MtnRider mentioned, they probably want to make sure it wasn't in an accident. Do you have a picture of the cracked weld? That would be interesting to see.
 
With your 40ft GN any chance your overloading the truck to cause that? Usually a cracked wheel weld is from the wheel flexing when overloaded
 
nope on the overloading. 25K is the most I can pull and usually loads are in the 10k range with the trailer weighing in at 9820. I will post a picture later but there is nothing to see. Only way the tire shop found it was with soap spray. They thought it was a valve stem. Was only loosing air at about 1 psi a minute. Took about 30 minutes to go from 80 to 50 psi.
 
Funny thing I had no problem buying a rim (268$), and asked the shop manager about replacing the damaged one ( then I would have two spares). Told him it would be a challenge to get back for pictures soon. He said he would call higher and get back with me. Four weeks and not a peep. I guess that a 268$ rim was worth blowing up any good will I had with the dealership. Would have even been ok with a call saying " to bad for you". But not calling when you said you will shows that you have no respect for a customer. Guess that "RAM Care's" also doesn't think it's worth keeping a customer.

I guess you are just that unlucky one in a million, it could have been a random bad spot in the hoop metal or perhaps the robot decided to mess up that weld…. On a side note are you running both rears at 80psi? Thats a little much unless your at max payload even then thats too much…. Cracked wheels happen a lot with transports too

I’ve had 3 rims crack at the welds,I even bought one of the rims on marketplace. Every rim has a production date of 07/10/20. Also they have all been on the front of the truck when they break.

You have something wrong then if you are going through rims like that. What weight is on your front axle?

4850-5200lbs when I roll over scales, the truck hauls a GN everyday so my front end doesn’t have that much weight on it. I’m curious if it’s the rim or my front end
 
I’ll take a picture tomorrow, it’s really nothing to see just a small rust line close to the valve stem, every rim that has broke has all had the break by the valve stem.

Thats odd for sure then. Especially at the valve hole usually it would be at the welds or bolt hole circle
 
It’s not in direct contact to the valve stem, but on 2 rims it’s directly under the valve stem then on another its 1” away. And all the cracks are about 1”-3”. One rim was on the front passenger side and the other were on front driver side. I don’t think the original post mentioned the kind of wheel but mine are the all steel wheels. I’ve recently installed new wheels with different production dates so I’m curious if they will break too.

2020 ram 3500 dually I've had 3 cracked rims in 3 months all on the front. Very frustrating, especially in the middle of the desert 100 miles from nowhere.
 
Sounds like there is a flaw in the metals on these wheels and likely the torsional load from turning is whats causing the cracks otherwise the rears would be cracking too
 
My tires are rotated every 7000 mi. I'm not sure why only the front ones maybe it's just junk rims made in china
