After getting the recall done at my local dealership (on my 2019 2500 mega cab bighorn) to swap the cp4 (about 1.5 years ago) I noticed a boost leak sound coming from my left ac vent / steering wheel area. It was only noticeable when hitting 20-25lbs of boost, below that it was undetectable. My exhaust break was also less effective. I brought it back to my local dealership twice who ultimately told me there was nothing by wrong as the truck was throwing no codes. I even made the tech come for a drive with me to show him the noise. He confirmed he did hear the sound and it wasn’t normal, but there was nothing they could do though I shouldn’t worry about it. I asked them to perform a boost leak test and they said they did not have anything to perform that test with. Long story long. I haven’t been back there since and the sound never got better. I decided recently get a banks intake kit installed to address the possible looming heater grid bolt failure many are worried about. A friend recommend diesel mechanic and I brought it to him for the install. He found what I had been fearing all along. That I’ve had 2 missing intake manifold bolts causing the sound at high pressure. I’m assuming the intake manifold / heater grid had to come out during the cp4 recall (let me know if this is correct) . So basically I’ve been driving for over a year missing 2 bolts and the truck blowing boost to the wind, and sucking in unfiltered air possibly as well. My mpg was down to 15 ish max the entire time and 5 days after this kit has been installed with normal driving I’m back up to 18+ mpg. I’m wondering what problems this caused long term and what recourse I may have now. Having a boost leak for that long cannot be good for and engine. @RamCares please reach out to me with any insight.

I could be wrong but if that leak required 20+ PSI boost to become noticeable, I don't think you have been sucking in any debris, only losing boost at high boost levels. I also have a 2019 CTD and have been thinking about addressing the grid heater bolt. However, I'm hearing for stock untuned engines there is a loss of power with the Banks horn... I am not really interested in boosting my power, only efficiency and reliability. Hopefully you are OK now with the fix.
What is your impression of the Banks intake ?

So the sound was only loud enough to be noticeable at high boost. It was leaking across the entire range likely. I guess it’s possible that it may not have caused issues exhaust brake wise. Though it’s such a noticeable difference now I can’t see how it wasn’t affected. My exhaust brake actually works again when not in tow/haul mode. As far as power loss from the banks install, I haven’t heard that at all from anyone I know that had it installed. I’ve heard up to 1 mpg gain but nothing performance wise. I too was only looking to bullet proof the engine from the heater grid bolt. Too many people have posted about having had the failure and I know one person personally that it happed to. I would not be a good source of info to ask as my trucks performance has been abysmal for 1.5 years. Now that My truck lost the leak when the banks kit was installed, the truck is now night and day difference. Power when towing at highway speeds again, still climbing mpg, and much snappier throttle response.

Absolutely not required to touch the intake for the CP4 recall.

RE: Banks. There was a youtube video that got taken down. No doubt due to the depth of Gale Bank's and his lawyers pockets.

BD Diesel has a solution that replaces the failure prone grid heater bolt using the stock intake.

You should also take the paper work from the mechanic you used that found the 2 missing manifold bolts back to your dealer and have them explain why they couldnt find anything wrong.
