Convert 2500 from Rear Coils to Factory Air?

Doing homework before ordering my first Ram. I currently have a '23 Grand Cherokee with air and I love it, I'd like to get the air on the Ram as well. Unfortunately, it's only available with the Cummins. I won't be towing that heavy or often (travel trailer a few times a year), so I just can't see $12k in value to get the diesel. Has anyone successfully converted to full factory air setup? AlphaOBD has said it is possible to enable via their platform, but I'm trying to figure out the parts and pieces. Obviously bags and a compressor along with the controls... but is wiring in place? If not, how much is missing?

I'm sure it would be possible, but none of the wiring is there, you would have to build a custom harness for the compressor, height sensors and the suspension control module

Depending on how much of that is CANbus versus analog/power wiring, that's my fear. Anything hardwired would be easy to just run. And if that all homers to a suspension control module, then sweet, just need to get that thing onto the bus. But if it's all tied in in different spots...

I just thought about this a bit, if you are talking about a 25+ truck it may be more challenging because ram went to a new canbus system for these trucks and as of right now alfaobd and jscan will not work on them.

Good to know! They did not mention that... doesn't need to be a Day 1 mod, necessarily. I assume they'll catch up. It's the rest of the install that might not be worth the squeeze...

Another alternative is to check out Timber Grove. I am fairly certain they use the same Firestone bags as RAM but without the sleeve. You can go a number of ways with Timer Grove. Just the bags or you can get an automatic adjustable system. The kits also come in versions which allow you to lower the rear up to 3". (Reverse Level) I have the 3" lower kit. All their kits use the same bags, just different brackets. Very nice stuff. I love it.

Now that's interesting... either they have a lower advertising budget or I've just somehow missed them. Are you using the LogIQ system they carry? Those compressors don't have great flow stats (flow rate, duty cycle), seems like they'd need a tank? Can't see a need for two "channels" and if I'm going to have to install a 3rd-party compressor, would be nice for it to be multi-purpose (on-board air + suspension).

You’ll want 2 channels to keep the bags independently plumbed for level load control and improved handling. When the bags are plumbed together air flows back and forth with body roll instead of fighting it. 1 channel systems are really only for show trucks.

OBA would be easy enough to add, might talk to TG about a different compressor but my 33% duty cycle 150 psi 2.62 CFM ViAir has been plenty for my needs. Even the previous 1.8 CFM compressor was adequate, just slow.

Do you have a separate air tank for your system?

Not anymore. I did at one time I have 5 gallons worth of tanks, but they were a hindrance more than a help for how I use my onboard air.

The last tank I had was a half gallon tank, simply for actuation of the exhaust brake on my 05.

I went LogIQ and airlift bags. If you want to build a full air setup you could beat the LogIQ but for all together ready to go easy install and a decent app I'm very happy with mine to control my bags. Only use mine when towing though so can't weigh in on everyday use for controlling a full air ride setup.

Sorry I ain't replied yet------I don't have and didn't want an automatic system. Mainly due to cost. I use a small AirLift pump what comes with a under dash switch and gauge. Works great. I normally run about 38 psi when unloaded. If I go down and get 1500 lbs of bricks or something I just press the switch and raise the rear back up. BTW, I have another air compressor in my tool box that I can use should the little pump quit.
I have used AirBags of some sort on every pickup I've had since the early 90's.
