We had our first cold snap overnight. It was about 46 this morning. My 2025 3500 has the glow plugs. I was expecting to push the ignition button and have the preheat process begin, but instead it turned right over. Am I missing a step or is that normal at that temp? My 2016 had the key fob and old heater system.

46° is not cold, even the older grid heater system wasn’t needed for the engine above 10°F (it was used for emissions above that).

The grid heater was used when the intake manifold temp was below 66°F. I haven’t heard if the 25+ is similar or not.

The glow plugs on the 25+ engine provide almost instant cylinder heat (heat to ~1800°’ in under 5 seconds), which is one of the reasons for the change.

All that is to say that you’re not going to have the long wait to start times you did before, especially when it’s not very cold.
