Choosing fifth wheel hitch for first time

This is why I don't like to see AUH brought up in threads. There's plenty of first hand accounts of failures due to panic stops and Andersen just buries them. That's all I'm going to say on the subject and will not respond further.
I respect your opinion Sir but my opinion doesn't change either for using my AUH hitch. I use safety chains, also stop every couple hundred miles and check all aspects of my hitch. I seen plenty of accidents involving over speed and following to close in my lifetime. Most failures documented with Anderson's were and are improper assembly, loose bolts, wrong height, wrong placement no safety chains. I've also seen accidents by people triple towing when they couldn't control them in mountainous conditions, thank goodness Texas doesn't allow that. People drive motor homes when in reality shouldn't be driving at all. Hitches are personal preference and i choose the Anderson. that's all i'm saying on the subject as well.

Does anyone on the forum have experience with the Gen Y Gen2 Executive hitch. I am thinking of going this route when my new truck finally arrives. 3500 DRW Cummins HO, I figure its deal with the weight one time installing the pinbox then its easy vs dealing with my other pick the B&W companion hitch. My 5ver weighs 15k and pin weight is 2990 lbs. Any thoughts?

I like this one, and if we buy a 5th wheel, probably go this route.

I looked at that also, but I have read about problems with having to add air each time you hook up, and that often it is necessary to let air out to un hitch. It also only pivots on one side where the Gen y hitch is fully articulating on 2 torsion bars. The other factor is that Lippert does certify the Reese Goosbox with the frame warranty where Gen y is working on that but hasn't as of yet that I know of. But my RV is a 2016 and the frame warranty has long since expired.

I'm running a goosebox as well. Ive put about 5,000 miles on my last '17 CCSB Cummins with my GD 31MB and its a great setup. I've got a new B&W Turnover ball to install in my new '22 but having the bed clear and no big hitch to move in or out is so nice. And the goosebox is stout. I've got a 4" offset puck which give great clearance from the cab as well.

I don't have one, but if I get a long bed, I would get rid of what I have, and put the Gen-Y on. The several people I have talked to that have one, like them, good ride, and they like that it doesn't use an air bag, just hook up, and not worry about that. I am sure there are some negative things about it, but no more than the Goosebox.

From what I have seen, there isn't a big following due to Lippert saying the Reese Goosebox is the only one they will honor the warranty with. I believe it is more about the financial interest that Lippert has with Reese (https://www.prnewswire.com/news-rel...y-cequent-performance-products-127893378.html).

I use the Andersen with my 15k lbs 5th wheel toy hauler and love it. The thing weighs nothing, takes up very little room in the bed compared to most other 5th wheel hitches, hooks up in 2 seconds (love the funnel that guides the ball into the cup) and I can install and remove it from the truck in under 2 minutes. That’s just my personal experience though, folks should do their research and make the best choice for their needs.

Here is may favorite hitch, its older and 270LBS but man it rides so smooth. This one was made by eazyrider hitches they no longer exist but air ride hitches still makes ones like it this one is good to 20k And as you can see its not hard to remove if you lift it out with the trailer jack lol

Besides ensuring you have proper height clearances with sides/tailgate - is there any other thing needed for a long bed w/ Ram factory 5th wheel prep? I guess i'm asking if the factory prep puts the goose pin hole is the proper spot w/ the long bed or will i need an adapter to extend the hitch a few inches to the rear?

With the long bed, the factory setup is good. The only reason to extend the goose ball would be if you had a short bed, no reason with yours.

GN hole is right over the axle. GTG on the long bed.

Unless you use a puck plate with an offset GN (I don't even know who makes one), the only GN extension that I'm aware of is a square hole 4" extension made by B&W that will not fit the factory round hole GN mount.

The B&W plate can be bolted in place of the factory plate if needed.

So lots of talk about aftermarket hitches. While I'm not new to 5th wheels, I did just order a 22 3500 SRW long bed with the factory 20K hitch. Who makes it for Ram , and did I screw up doing this?

The 20K hitch is a Curt Q-series hitch.

If you have a rotaflex cushioned pinbox on your 5th, you could have some issues as they are not considered compatible.

The Mopar 30K hitch is an A-Series (newer design). I have an A-25 I converted from rail to puck and it's a great hitch.

Not sure why Mopar does that.
