Have a 2021 2500 tradesman with the 6.4 hemi. Mainly a grocery getter as we have a dually to haul with. We'll be needing another vehicle early next year and after looking at the prices on a similarly equipped 23/24, a new 6.4 tradesman 2500 CC SWB 4x4 is $61k or so. Went and looked at a comparable Chevrolet Custom trim with the 6.6 gas...more options (power drivers' seat is big one since the driver is 5' 4" ) ...crew cab is $57k, double cab is $55k. Surprisingly the total truck length of the double cab is actually longer than the Ram 2500 crew cab.

I could on with other reasons for leaning towards the 6.6...but does anyone have any experiences with the new GM HD gas burners - as compared to the 6.4?

Ultimately it'll come down to which truck can give us the most bang for our buck. If we can't get much of a discount on a Chevy, seems as though Ram will always have dealers with good discounts....and may lean towards used if the market continues the current trend into spring.

I suggest driving one. I was considering a GMC with the gas 6.6 and 10 speed transmission after my 6.4 was bought back. On paper the numbers are very similar to the 6.4, but it was a total dog. Can barely get out of its own way.

a close friend has one. it's really nice inside. it drives good and is comfy. it is big and slow.

was planning on driving one over the next few weeks...and agree that on paper the specs are pretty much a wash.

I will say the trans is super smooth, the overall ride is very comfortable, bigger cab, bigger bed, bigger overall. Great towing tech features, great cameras, heads up display, auto 4WD setting. The 24 interior updates are a huge improvement (not sure if the custom has the new interior), but overall still not as nice as the Ram interior. Seats are terribly uncomfortable! Back seat center armrest doesn’t sit flush and makes that seat extremely uncomfortable for adults or kids. Column shifter blocks part of the screen in drive, so when you use google maps you can’t see the ETA or trip info. Mirrors are hideous and they shake on even slightly bumpy roads which is very distracting. Almost bought one, but we travel about 15k miles a summer towing a camper (family of 5) and I couldn’t make one of my kids sit in that middle rear seat on long road trips, and I’m not sure I could drive more than a couple hours in those front seats. When they started discounting the leftover 2023 Ram’s I picked up a diesel for less than I could buy a GM gasser. That was a no brainer for me. Tons of leftover 2023’s on the lot with big discounts, you can probably find one cheaper than the Chevy.
