Check Engine After Fuel Filter Change?

Hey folks,

Just finished the first fuel filter service on the truck (2025 Cummins 3500) with 10,420 miles on it. First off, kind of a pain to do. Was able to open the drain valve on the front filter but not the rear. Eventually tried to use a Phillips screwdriver in the head of the plastic drain cap on the rear filter and it immediately rounded out, so be careful if you attempt the same. Eventually I just decided not to drain the rear and it went a lot more smoothly from that point. A flexible head ratchet is definitely required for the job.

Anyhow, truck seems to be running well now in the 8 miles or so I put on it after the job, but as I was driving I noticed that I now have a check engine light illuminated. I’ve read a couple other posts saying it may take a day or two to remove trapped air and that should reset the light. Anyone else experience this? Unfortunately I don’t have a code reader. Thanks.

Well I bought a code reader. It was for low fuel pressure and I’ve been able to clear it and the check engine seems to be staying extinguished. One thing that did concern me was my code reader initially displayed some permanent codes related to glow plugs for several different cylinders. But after resetting the fuel pressure code those codes have cleared as well. I don’t know if that could have been related to my check engine light from 5000 miles ago (exhaust system needs service see dealer), or something else. I did find it weird that when I disconnected the batteries yesterday to change the filters there was a constant ticking noise from the truck until I had the batteries re connected. Which I don’t think is normal. Anyhow, disaster averted for now I suppose.
