My 2020 2500 has the led bed lights, yet the cargo lights in the center high mounted brake light assembly are incandescent. With all the leaking horror stories I've read do I even want to think about breaking the seal on this light to change the two bulbs to led. Tim

No seal to break, it’s just a foam gasket.

Thanks jsalbre, just a matter of taking the screws out, swapping the bulbs and replacing the screws. That foam seal isn't going to get all offended....... and start to let water in.
Maybe I misunderstood what I read and it wasn't the chmsl leaking .

No, they're definitely known to leak for some people, it's just that you're not really breaking any sealant if you take it off. People have had them leak from the factory. Hell, pulling it off would be a good chance to make sure your seal is good to go.

Better to pull it and use a little bit of sealant on both sides of the foam gasket, my 19 leaked it has never been removed before I changed the bulbs and sealed it

the cheap aftermarket gaskets on amazon are worlds better than the OEM gasket.

That being said you might need something like AlfaOBD or J-Scan to program the BCM for LED swaps. Canbus is looking for a certain resistance on those bulbs which the LED's don't provide.

Another option is replacing the entire assembly, also cheap, with a fully LED one. They usually come with an in-line resistor so you don't have to do any programming.

Thanks for the replies and suggestions.
What type of "sealant" are you suggesting?
Sealant along with a new seal or just one or the other?

No sealant. Just the thicker gasket. Just search on Amazon for "ram third brake light gasket". Same design from 2010-2025. They're like $10.

If reusing the OEM seal just a bit of black RTV works well. I have never used the amazon gasket so I have no clue if I would trust it or not

problem with the oem gasket is it's very thin, loses it's "squish" and starts leaking. The ones from Amazon are much thicker. Worked great on my 2013 and 2017 1500's.

I may check em out if I need to remove it again
