So on my 2022 ram 3500 while driving the other night I needed for someone to look in the bed for something. I don’t have bed lights just the cargo light. We were driving so the truck was in drive but does Ram have the cargo light disabled now when the truck is in drive? It works like normal in park but not in drive. My previous 3500 I could be driving and flip the cargo lamp on and see what’s going in the bed. Is it just me or is this another one of those dumb safety things Ram has done to these trucks (3 horn honk when the key leaves).

So if you open the door it doesn't come on while stopped but in Drive either? I have never had to do that yet So I am not sure if mine comes on while in Drive.

When I unlock the truck it comes on. When I lock the truck it goes off. All that works as normal. When I am just sitting in the truck in the driveway with the truck in Park and truck is on it turns on. The only time it doesn't turn on is in drive.

So pushing the cargo light button does nothing is what Iam understanding.

Pushing the cargo lamp button while the truck is in D (drive) does nothing. Otherwise it works as supposed to. I wanted my passenger to check the load in the bed the other night while we were driving, which is when I found that if the truck is in drive the cargo lamp will NOT illuminate.

I believe it’s designed that way, it’s illegal in many places to have any rear facing lights on while driving down the road.

I used to have a 2015 F150 and the cargo plus lights in the towing mirrors would shut off when you reached 5 mph. Never paid much attention to it on the RAM.

There has been some discussion on this in other forums as well after a quick search - looks like this changed in the 19+ trucks for sure. There is a work around for Chevy/GMC - not sure its a huge demand thing so it may not happen for the 5th gens -

Do you live in California or Mississippi? I believe that trucks that are delivered to those states have the options disabled.

can be changed with ALPHA OBD. also effects the spotter lights in the mirrors if you have them. there is another post on here somewhere about the spotter lamps and this issue

OK, so I've been having a issue in that my mirror mounted auxiliary reverse lights would go out every time I started backing up the truck.
Asked the question on here and others say theirs works fine, and we couldn't understand why mine didn't.
Then one member said something about Cailf not allowing cargo lights on when the truck is moving.
So I went digging into the owners manual. Sure enough, right there in black and white in a note, it states California AND Mississippi do not allow the auxiliary reverse lights to work while the truck is moving. WTF?

So me being me, I started looking around in my ALPHA OBD and found this.

If I go into the BCM, scroll to the bottom I find
Car configuration change.

So I click on it and then go to select option and scroll down about half way and find
2014 CBC Config I/O & Feat.-Baggage (Cargo) Lamp Output Disabled with vehicle moving

I then hit set value and select no. then start.
And it changed my setting.

Backed everything out and tried the mirror lights.

THEY WORK! So I now have the mirror axillary reverse lights on my Calif truck. Yea me.

in my 19, when i turned on the cargo camera, it turned on the bed lights to light up the cargo area, not the actual cargo light. So I assume since you dont have the bed lighting that is why in drive you get no cargo lights as they use the bed lights when in drive.
