My registration renewal is requiring a smog test for my 22 ram 2500. Is this normal for the state of California? I thought no smog required for the first 5 years on a new vehicle.

Its Kommieforina, what do you expect. May be because it's a 2500. Or because they register ALL trucks as commercial. Abd make sure you didn't change anything unless you paid extra to get a part with a EO number. Otherwise, they won't pass it, even though the sniffer test shows it's running cleaner than with the stock parts.

Been there, done that.

Glad I left the commie state and moved back to free america.

Doesent surprise me.
When I left, I went on their website, said I moved to Fla. Gave them an old address i had decades ago. They wouldn't take it
I got Nevada tags for my truck. Somehow they found my address here and kept trying to get me to pay for their tags. When I didn't pay, they said they would arrest me and impound my truck. Wonder how they would catch me when I didn't have Kali tags on my truck.

Then they went and garnished my tax return for the tags on my wife's truck. Finally got ahold of them and after some run around, they admitted they should not have done that. No ****. Finally got my money back from them.

I could tell you more stories about how messed up the state and their DMV is.

Yep, normal for us in Ca. Diesel smog required every two years. New gasoline vehicles get an exemption for several years, but not diesels.

There's no escaping California's emissions and green energy policies in Wyoming. The @@@@hole state has changed a once beautiful scenic drive with views of wild horses, pronghorns, and eagles while driving across with my CTD and PW through Baggs to Cheyenne, WY into one of the world's ugliest eyesores for hundreds of miles. The CA diesel smog check registration fees probably contributed to this...
