Going to try to make a key fob for the remote start addition to a 22 big horn 6.7 diesel. I got the obd2 link, bypass cable, and Jscan app. Do you really need to pull the cluster out to get to these bypass cables to turn the remote start sales code on and get the key programmed?

You don't if you have the correct bypass cable for a RAM HD truck. It plugs into the CAN blocks behind the headlight switch.

Sounds like maybe you have the wrong one?

Right:

Wrong: (these are for 1500's)

Yes I got that 12-8 red cable. I saw a 3500 using it on YouTube behind the cluster. I like the idea of using this one you mentioned behind the headlight switch. Where can I get one of these?

And any links to instructions on hooking it up the the truck?

Just ordered one. Hopefully it will pair with my v-linker mc+ and get this remote start activated and key fob programmed :) I’ll keep y’all posted how it goes

Evidence anyone, regardless of knowledge, can hang their shingle on youtube and post crappy misleading videos like they are an expert, when if fact, they know little.

The instructions with the cable are pretty awful. Which terminals hook to which of the bypass blocks behind the headlight switch? The instructions say it’s specific but the connectors are the wrong colors and not labeled as they say they are- so typical for aftermarket items- poor instructions

I will admit the instructions provided were not very clear however, they were correct. I remember I had to read them a few times to fully understand them but I don't remember items being labeled incorrectly. Did you follow the 5th gen instructions on the website?

Break the little lock tabs off the cable CAN block connectors. They are a b**ch to remove if they lock into the CAN block. The cable I have has color coded heat shrink to correspond to the CAN block colors.

I read the 5th gen instructions- the two small plugs are not labeled with any colored tape or labels. Of course the plugs are colored but doesn’t match the instructions. I emailed them but I’m lost. I swear I always run into this **** with aftermarket parts.

It's all about the color of the wires.

Hmm, I'm assuming you should base it off your connector colors. White connector will go to White CANBUS and Black connector goes to Black CANBUS. If it does not work swap them around, you will not cause any damage if they are backwards.

We've found that is incorrect.

Don't know why he's mismatching connector colors and causing all this confusion, but the YEL/BLU goes on the BLACK base CANBUS. WHT/GRN or PNK/GRN to the WHITE base CANBUS.

The post above is the correct configuration and the cable now works perfect with Jscan.

Thanks!
