Got my bug screen installed late yesterday evening. What a pain. Had to remove the grill, take out the grill insert, install the 1/8” hardware cloth and then put it all back together. But I got what I needed.

Who makes the screen? I like the idea, just not the hassle lol.

I got the screen at a hardware store. It’s just 1/8 inch hardware cloth that is 3 feet wide by 6 feet long. I just cut it out cutting around the outside of the insert and put it back together. I also covered the transmission cooler and the radiator through the lower gap in the grill.

Just one word of caution, watch your temps and the A/C may not work as well…. I had a few customers back in the day who had over heating issues and poor to no A/C due to house hold screen. Believe it or not it blocks a lot of air flow. Heck even my 01 dually i have to pull a couple if the aftermarket grill inserts when i tow heavy in the summer do to over heating.

I hope you dont have those issues an it works out for you

I believe (and I’m no engineer) that the screen will flow more than the shutters. I know what you are saying though. I put the same screen on my 08’ Silverado 14 years and 160k miles ago and the condenser coil still looks new. We do have lots of bugs. I drove it yesterday and it was only 100 degrees here but the temperatures stayed like they have been I wish I had taken some of the slats out of the shutters while I was in there.
Atleast with the screen I can wash them off.

My grandpa used to have to put a muzzle on his mule when he was plowing his corn to keep them from eating it. He said too small of mesh in the muzzle would suffocate them.
I know this isn’t the same thing but the truck has to get enough air too.

Your 100% correct. I added one to my 2017 and on my first pull after installing it, I had to pull over within 15 miles due to elevated engine temp and poor A/C. This was in 100 degree weather, towing 15k. Removed and issue solved.

My truck is actually running cooler with the screen installed but I haven’t done any towing yet. Maybe the screen is making the shutters stay open longer. Been right at 100* here every day. A/C is blowing cold.

Towed my 7k TT today about 40 miles of interstate driving just to see what kind of temps I could have. Transmission stayed at 168. Water temperature ran from 204 to 219. Mostly around 215. Oil temperature 222 to 224. No big hills to climb but rolling hills. Weighed in on CAT scales to see how the weight distribution looked and to see actually what the truck weighs. Temperature today was 96.
