Hey,

First stretch of time not having driven my 2025 Ram 2500 (5 days or so). Went to start it and it did everything but start....checked the battery and it was under 12v. Jumped it and it cranked over but didn't start. Had to turn off the ignition and back on and then it started...and of course, it threw a CEL.

I charged the battery, cleared the codes and then the truck started and drove normally.

However, something caused the battery to die. The truck was off, locked and keys were not inside the vehicle. I did have something plugged into the 12v socket and I assume that was what caused the drain on the battery.

Last night, I switched the fuse so that the 12v socket is OFF with the ignition off.

I also have a dash cam plugged into the USB port in the center stack. Curious if this stays on for 1 hour or indefinitely after the ignition is off? Last night I shut the vehicle off, 12v socket was off, dash cam plugged into USB...by the time I checked the battery voltage today it had gone from something like 12.5-12.7 down to under 12.3v.

What gives? All research I have done leads to inconclusive or inconsistent results/ fixes.

Hello! Have you by chance conferred with a Ram dealer on this yet?

Hi,

I have not, yet. Figured I’d check in with folks here first. I switched the 12v dc outlet to be ignition controlled. It has also been about an hour since I last locked the vehicle and from what I can see the dash cam is off but still plugged into USB.

I checked the battery voltage and it’s holding steady at 12.76v. Going to check again in a few hours. If it goes down substantially I will take it in.

I called my service advisor earlier and left a message.

Down from 12.76 to 12.64 this morning. I’m thinking/ hoping that’s just surface charge coming off.

It must be the 12v outlet. Checked parasitic draw this morning and it’s about .3 amps with the negative post disconnected and about .5 with it connected. Suspect that second reading is high.

The last time you drove the truck before it sat a few days and would not start, did you happen to remote start the truck? I was just watching a video where a guy was saying that when remote started and the truck then after that cycle sits a few days, something is not powering down so the battery goes dead. He was able to replicate it I believe. Suggested a software update will probably be needed.

Hmm…I think I might have, actually. I also have had an issue with remote start where only one mirror extends. Also once, only one mirror closed when I shut it off after remote start. I wonder if that it is?

I ended up throwing a better battery in…X2 Power AGM. After we got home today I checked the battery voltage a few hours later and it was over 13v.

I wonder if it was a combo of that remote start issue and also having something plugged into the 12v socket when it was set up to run with the ignition off?

For us to dig a little deeper on this can you send us a private message with your VIN? Looking forward to hearing back.

Idk about the 25-26 trucks but the 19-24 have power to the USB all the time regaurdless of fuse position on the 12V plug. Thats likely your draw issue
