What is the reason behind Bilstien saying their 5100 series rear shock only works on trucks without factory air?

Has anyone changed out there stock shocks for the Bilstien 5100’s. Any issues?

If I had to guess, its probably either the travel length or the stiffness. The air ride trucks sit lower and have softer front and rear suspension.

Based off feel. No concrete evidence.

It could be my truck is an odd ball since their seems to be a lack of consistency between trucks from what I have see with the one that have came through the shop I work at.

The ride between my air ride truck compared to other 2500/3500s w/o air is night and day. My air ride truck also bottoms out very easily compared to others. From what the parts department has told me their are different part numbers for the couls also. That said, I don't know the actual spring rates, and haven't been able to get anyone at the dealership to verify.
