Big horn with Cummins or Laramie with gas

I’m looking to spend around 55k. I can get a nicely equipt big horn with the Cummins and add leather (with my kids it’s a must) or get a Laramie with the 6.4l hemi with just about every option I would like. I plan to trade every 4 years. My question I guess is which should hold more value?? Milage will be around 100k in the 4 years and I pull 3-5k 2-3 times a week and pull my boat (6k lbs) and my travel trailer 2-4 times a month (tt is 8500 dry). I don’t need the Cummins for my loads but would it be wise to drop down in trim to save 4 years from now?

thanks for any help!

Cummins will hold more Value. Substantially more.
Have you seen used diesel prices as of late? It’s almost cheaper to buy new.

that’s kind of what I figured. Especially under the 100k mark.

Actually, Even more so over the 100k mark. They all flatline eventually but the diesels really shows their worth after that big 100 mark.

They both depreciate at the same rate, thus, if you spend $9k less now, it’ll be worth $9k less in 4 yrs. Check NADA for yourself on 2015 gas vs diesel models. As such, really depends on whether extra towing capability on a diesel outweighs features you get with the gas. I compared diesel maintenance (oil, fuel filter, etc) vs mpg improvement. For me, I chose the 6.4 and have no regrets.

You may not spend 9000 more on a diesel now, though; you might find a nice diesel for less than gas. There are a lot more diesels sitting on lots that are deeply discounted than there are hemis so the hemis are not so deeply discounted. I could have gotten a very nice diesel for much less money than the hemi I ordered. I just have a my-way-or-the-highway mental defect so I spent more to get just what I wanted.

Why not go with a Hemi Big Horn and stick the $9k in a mutual fund. Spend that $9k on a truck, and in 4 years it will be worth about $6k, invest it, and it should be $15k.

Wowens, it’s a truck that will enter my work fleet. I’ll keep it for 2 years, pass it down to one of my salesmen and get another. The plan is to keep 2 trucks less than 4 years old between myself and one of my other salesman and trade in the 4 year old truck each time. If it were for me personally and not a business expense/write off I wouldn’t be as concerned with the resale/trade value as I am with trying to come up with a strategy for my business spending! Our current 4 year old gmc has 94k on the clock. Just trying to make since of some numbers. Thanks!
