Beware of US 491

Rt 491 from Shiprock NM to Gallup NM, absolutely is the worst stretch of hwy we encountered during our 5200 mile trip from San Antonio to Glacier NP and back to S.A.
Yes there were bad sections of road in every state, but 491 got my vote for disgusting.

I agree, we took that route this summer with our toy hauler. Absolutely the worst road I have ever been on.

Try out Hwy 43 through Alberta part of the Alaska Hwy. The worst spots are littered with busted wood dunage from transport loads going airborne and in some spots everyone drives down either shoulder for 20-30 miles. Third world calibre.
