I had the honor of blowing up my AISIN Trans yesterday. Luckily, I was heading downhill on the freeway and was able to pull off safely.

An issue occurred when I tried to load my truck and trailer onto a trailer for a heavy-haul tow. Since I only had 5th gear, I couldn't drive up the trailer and had to be winched.

With me in the truck steering it up, he wrapped the chain around a cross member near the exhaust. He was pinching what looked like a wiring loom. I didn't realize it until after I was pulled up on the trailer.

Would the tow hooks rip off at that weight? I wondered if there are any other points for the Ram 3500, which pulls up 26,000 lbs while still having a 4x4 front end.

The truck is at the dealership now. I'm not sure if this did damage, but when the trailer was pulled up, a new "Service Exhaust System" message popped up.

The tow hooks would have been a better place to tow from.

You also could have used 4 Low to get yourself on the trailer.

I would look for any damaged sensors in the exhaust around where the chain was placed.

With that weight I'd use both hooks, rather than just one, but they'd hold up just fine. it's not a straight vertical pull... not pulling the rig up a cliff face, ya know?

Maybe they were just too far forward for him to drag the truck and trailer all the way up.

That's a shame he didn't take the time to find a better winch point.

Tow hooks are good for that way stronger than the crossmember. I believe they are rated at 15k each. They would have been better with a flat deck with a tow bar to pull the trailer without the truck attached…
