And always had to rip out the egr to get my trucks to work correctly. Doesn’t seem like that’s the case with HDs but why keep it? I live in Florida so laws don’t apply.

Thoughts?

Egr is not so bad with the introduction of DEF on these newer cummins, earlier 6.7 I’d say hell yes get it off ASAP. I’ve seen some intakes with some miles on them and not a heavy build up as you would expect. Warranty becomes a concern when you start messing with emission components. You will need a tune to keep the truck happy and that will leave a footprint in the computer. If warranty and state annual inspection/emission is of no concern hell I’d probably do it.

Ps sorry about your previous poor life choices, glad to see you turned yourself around ;)

Ha

I still have a 7.3 as the weekend and a 2006 6.0 as my work truck. Surprisingly that one has been a monster but I got the egr out real early and she’s been a gem now for the better part of a decade. Previous owner had the entire engine rebuilt cause of the egr problem and sold it right after to me. Took it out within the first 200miles of the rebuild at 60k miles. I could never sell that truck, it sounds too good.

Just couldn’t justify 12k more for the same level truck this time around and I have wanted to switch it up for a while now.

But I Shoulda drove my old 6.8 in a lake the day I bought it though.

Fixed it for you. :)

I have never understood why people think a 6leaker sounds good to me it just sounds like a brutal wet fart when you jam the skinny pedal on a straight piped 6leaker

I love my 1997 7.3, but man is that thing loud!!! I just wish that the wrapper wasnt a rotted out POS.

Sounds like Bigfoot farting in the woods.

My 7.3 is in a Bronco. At first, I had it straight piped. Being such a short exhaust, it was loud as ****, but sounded awesome even with a stock unchipped engine. I ended up putting a 30" FTE resonator on it because the drone was mind scrambling. Its super quiet until you get into the loud part of the pedal, then it is just slightly throaty.

If Bigfoot farts in the woods and no one is around, does it make a sound? Better yet, does it stink?

Lol. 6.0's can be built/tuned to be powerhouses, but i'd never own one. Too damn much going on making it impossible to work on those things.

I upgraded injectors in my '99 24v in my driveway in about 2.5 hours taking my time.

Straight pipes on that turbo sounds like a ****ing jet taking off.

But just the rumble in general from the engine is what I like. She sounds like a Mack truck. I love seeing my kids run out the house when I come home cause they can hear me coming around the block

One thing i love about my 01 HO cummins when i downshift coming off the highway my neighbors all know im almost home

Come on over to the dark side, delete your truck and leave the warranty where it belongs.. back in the minimum wage paid tech's recycling can. If something breaks.. upgrade it. Plus, all the little electronic gizmo's which may need a warranty fix will still be covered. All my days of owning the truck version of the human centipede were over well under 5000km's.
I could not believe how the diesel smell was basically non-existent when stock and how all you could hear was intake noise. I have no other option but to smile like a kid whenever the exhaust brake kicks in at idle after a cold-start and sounds like godzilla woke up on the wrong side of the ocean. I have never been this attached to a vehicle since this truck. It is my first diesel that I have owned (a few in the family and learned to drive on a Duramax many years ago) and I am seriously converted.. never going back to gas.
Little strange to say but after my grandfather past away, I missed the smell on his jackets or clothes and could never figure out what cologne or what it was from.. always thinking maybe aftershave, certain treated leather or something.. I realized recently that it was the good ol' smell of diesel through an old school motor with nothing in its way of breathing. May sound stupid but I get a nostalgic feeling whenever I am around with the Cummins running. Maybe my son will grow up wondering what that smell he attaches to me is, as well..

This dude got a 12mpg increase with the delete. And it can easily be put back in if you need to warranty something

Interdasting

I am sorry but you cannot easily just put it back if a warranty item comes up because they will know it was deleted. I am deleted and also got a crazy increase and enjoy the benefits but I do not kid myself on warranty coverage on an item I messed with. Warranty will still cover many things but don't think if you blow a head gasket after running a hot tune and returning it to stock and limping it to a dealer that they won't be the wiser, well maybe lol.

Agree with that but it helps to have a friend in the service department. Just got the truck so I’ll probably run it for a few thousand miles to make sure it’s not a lemon then throwing the warranty in the trash. I keep my trucks for a decade plus and the DPF and EGR deletes are crucial to long term viability of the engine.

Also just found out about the CCV delete when I was doing research. It’s disgusting what the government makes the companies put back into the engine

Agreed and good thinking with driving for a few thousand before doing it. I did the same and have not looked back. I plan on keeping this truck for atleast 8 years and am always so astonished that people want to wait until the factory warranty on the powertrain is over until deleting. By the time you get 100,000 miles of soot and regen cycles.. your not going to need a delete.. you're going to need an extended warranty lol.
