Battery Insulation needed??

I replaced both batteries on my 19 2500 CTD but forgot to install the wool looking insulation around each battery.
I assume it's to keep some of the engine heat from cooking the batteries? I know I'm lazy...but do I need it?

Heat kills batteries. That being said I imagine on short trips it helps protect them. If your hauling and it’s a long trip the bats are going to get heat soaked regardless. Once shut down the insulation is going to hold the heat in longer. Kinda a toss up, pick your poison.

Mine are gone. Mice also got mine. Also my hood insulation is gone because of mice
