Has anyone else experienced this issue. It was blistering cold out and my battery died. Jumped it and work fine at first. Turned off the truck to see if it had enough charge to start. Did not and after jumping it a second time I can’t shift out of park. The shift knob turns but it doesn’t shift into gear. Any hints to this problem.

yes. let it run for a while or put it on a charger and it will start shifting again. It is un-nerving when it won't go into to gear but it will once it charges back up and you shut it off and start it again. My battery and alternator both were replaced under warranty at under a year and 9000 miles on my 2020.

As it was explained to me by someone who is a Ram tech. It is a safety built in to the shifter module and the BCM. As soon as you jump the truck off and get it running it can take a little bit to get full battery power to every module and then get every module back operating and communicating in the bus again.

Mopar products have always been particular about proper battery/charging voltage.

Im having the same problem. Went to start my truck (2020 Ram 2500 6.4 Hemi)... Wouldn't start, so i jumped it.. Started right away and ran fine with lights radio etc... However the rotary shift would not go into reverse to back out of my driveway.. Im hoping its the battery, as its almost 5 years old

Im having the same issue. After jumping it, the truck starts normal but knob will not shift to Drive.

As noted above, give it a bit and let the alternator charge up the battery and it should work. I'd have the charging system/battery tested though once it's driving again.

Update: today I started my Ram 2500 and it started. I turned the shift knob to reverse and released the E brake and I was able to back up. Then I turned the shift knob to drive and drove forward. So I think when my battery got full charged and I waited till the next day the ECM rebooted and the electric shift knob worked.

Been following this tread. On Saturday I had hooked up my TT, but when I went to start my truck it would not. Battery was fine, but I jumped it just in case. Still no luck. And yes the rotary dial would not turn no matter what. I had to get it towed to the dealership. What is interesting, in order to get it into true neutral, I had to pry a cover on the lower left had side of the dash. Behind that is a cord. But in order to release the cord you have to use a screw driver to push the release in order to pull the strap. Only then was the truck actually in neutral so that it could be pulled up on to the flat bed. There has got to be a better way of doing this. Tow guy thinks it's either the starter or a solenoid. Waiting to hear what the dealer says. Just glad it happened at home and not out on the road.
