Truck is a 22 with 41k and a 6.7. I’m at the dealership getting an oil change and they recommend i replace both batteries because they failed the cold cranking amps test. I’m not going to have the dealership change them but is it needed , it never has an issue starting. If it matters i live in the St.Louis area. My question is do you all think i should buy 2 batteries in the next few days or wait till i notice something.

I would have the batteries tested somewhere else like AutoZone, OReilly or even a WM. The dealer might just be trying to get extra money from you for something you really don’t need. Make sure though if you replace one, you replace both batteries even if only one is bad.

As preventive maintenance you might consider replacing in the near future. I replaced my 21 batteries a few months ago. I was not having any issues and I did not have them tested. When I get 4+ years out of batteries I typically replace even if there are no issues. Then I can buy what I want, when I want, and replace when I have time. Nothing worse than getting a dead battery at a bad time.

Replace them when it’s convenient for you, or they will assuredly pick a time when it is not.

Can’t delay the inevitable.

WM AGM Platinum are the same as the Costco/Interstate and carry a 1 year longer warranty. They also install them for no charge.

Did your 22 batteries quit on you. My 22 cranks as hard as day 1. Sits in my shop for weeks on end without a maintainer and no issues yet.

my '21 3500, 6.7 batteries died without any warning at just under 4 years old. I made 2 stops that morning before going to Lowe's where they gave up the ghost. Never had batteries die without warning before

My 22 batteries have never had a problem except failing a test by the dealer oil change tech. It’s 20 degrees here and the truck started up this morning with zero struggle.

They don't give you any notice of going bad they just won't start one day. At least from my experience. Living in AZ I switch mine out every 4 years religiously.

In the old days, a weak battery would just turn over slowly. Not these trucks. Computer looks at your battery and says, "Tough luck bud". Any one know at what voltage level the computer decides to go on vacation??

I recently replaced the batt in my 6.4 after inexplicably all four windows rolled down on their own. I took that as a sign the computer wasn't happy with it's charge anymore. Costco had the H7 interstate for 179, in hindsight tho I would've gone with WM for the better warranty period. However, and not to derail the conversation, but THIS came across my feed yesterday. I'll be giving it a go with the old battery and 1 or 2 I have in storage. If it works, they'll fit perfectly for my future solar bank on the work trailer

edit: forgot the hyperlink

Im wondering if this would fit my truck (3500 6.7). Looking it up at Canadian Tire it says that this may or may not fit my truck.
Its the only one thats isn't a crazy price

I think it will fit. However I think Costco has a way better warranty. I bought two AGMS last fall. Full replacement for 5 years, an additional 8 years pro rated. And Costco is all over if you travel to the US. Worked out to 300 CDN each plus tax with the cores returned. In store price. They will ship but I think it is an extra 30 bucks.

Just looked this up at Costco...your right...If shipped to me its $329 and if I pick it up cash and carry its only $289 so it beats the hell out of Canadian Tire by $64.
Thanks!
