Backing up with driver door open?

new to the forum, tried a search to no avail. I came from a 2016 Ram Ecodiesel that had a GDE hot tune (pre-EPA). One of the neat "benefits" of the tune was it allowed you to back your truck up with the driver side door open. Why you ask? Because for any of you who routinely back up trailers in tight spaces, the rear camera isn't always the best option, and opening the driver door to look beside you is an easy way to track your trailer (especially with a topper on your truck). My new Ram HD won't engage in reverse if you have the door open, assuming this is a safety feature. Is there a way to bypass this safety feature on these trucks? TIA

Mine allows it also. My ecodiesel did at first, then the software update screwed it all up for me.

after further research is sounds like as long as your seatbelt is buckled it will work. When I tried yesterday I did not have my seatbelt on. In addition when my ecodiesel had the AEM update done it reverted back to that, but then I just reinstalled my GDE ECM and it was all gone again. I have been backing up with the driver door open since I was a kid, hopefully it's just a seatbelt or seatbelt/brake engaged thing.

Autopark will also not engage as long as you don’t take your foot all the way off the brake.

Do you have the Hemi and 8 Speed Trans? My old 2016 1500 was able to move with the door open until a software update changed that. On my 3500 with the 6 speed 68RFE i can back with my door open again. I believe it has to do with the transmission and the dial shifter.
