I've decided my next truck will be a 2nd Gen RAM with the 5.9L Cummins Turbo Diesel. While the new trucks have all kinds of power, bells and whistles, I don't want to own a truck I can't fix.

I have a lot to learn about the 2nd Gen truck, including the corrections made over time. I'm thankful to those who will guide me to my next (and final?) truck.

Good luck finding an unmolested one they are great trucks but hard to find ones that have not been touched or abused

Always found the Cummins hub website useful for referencing the different years and their power numbers and such. Also watch out for that 53 casting block, have to get underneath to find the mark on the block, last time I was looking at a second gen it had the 53 on it. I really don’t know if it fails to the degree that causes people to bitch about it so much, but I guess if given the choice you might avoid it.

They stock them like crazy around the Portland, OR area…ironically enough.

53 block is a minor issue as most of them either cracked before 100k miles or wont crack other than the odd one, My 01 has one it never skips a beat and gets run hard
