Auto start / high idle function

I would like to set up to have the truck:
- Every 1 - 2 days
- Do an auto start and run in high idle for ~ an hour
- Auto shut down.

Could also shut down on a battery voltage or digital or analog signal if that is easier.

Don't have a truck yet, probably a 3500 SRW version, TBD.

Open to any suggestions or ideas.

Thanks

Harry

Listen to AH64ID, not much you could do that would be worse for the longevity of the drivetrain.

If you are concerned about starting (no idea what climate you are in) use the block heater. For battery level, unless you are leaving it for weeks at a time no need to worry, if so an onboard charger is easy and effective.

Terrible idea, a battery maintainer would be better idea to top off the batteries then if the truck sits for even a year its no issue just start it and go

Thanks - I understand the reasons to not do it, but sometimes it will be needed.

Not all of the time, but sometimes.

The block heater concept only works if the truck is in a place that has a grid connection, and this truck will rarely be able to be plugged in.

I am already looking at ways to have a fuel based heater to keep things warm / pre-heat, but all of them also require some electricity to run, and sunlight cannot always be counted on.

This approach is used in some extreme conditions climates - actually they have the engine start / stop multiple times per day.

If a gasoline based engine version of the 3500 srw megacab becomes available, obviously that is closer to my needs, but so far, those are as rare as hens teeth.

__________

The plan / hope is to have a cap on the bed with some solar to keep things charged up, but there are times when that is not sufficient.

I am estimating 20 - 40 hours of idle per year.

Get a small inverter generator and a NOCO battery charger. Run the battery charger and block heater as needed. You’ll be much better off.
