Auto diming display at gauges - too soon, too dark?

I just got my truck, and figured out the first "problem" with the display brightness - the roller wheel by headlights. great. But in the evening, the headlights sometimes turn on, and the brightest setting for night time renders the gauges too dark for a while. Has anyone else discovered this? What settings do you use? mine are all maxed 10 for day/10 for night. I have been using the roller wheel to turn the gauges back to day/bright temporarily in the twilight hours.

Yeah, it does drop down a bit. Especially if you're driving in daytime during light rain and have to have the headlights on, I'm forced to turn off the dimming.

On a side note, it would be great if they would dim down all the other dash stuff. It's annoying driving at night with the dimmer on but your brights indicator and other odds dash lights are still at full brightness and really distracting. If you glance at them it can screw up your night vision for up to a minute. And driving in the deer-laden countryside in the dark, it's important to have night vision.

It seems this should be a programming update. I don't know why they couldn't change the night time brightness range through an update.. It is a bit of a safety concern.

I can only hope that Ram updates software to iron out these little issues in a similar way Tesla has.. we had a model S.. enough people complain about something, and then BAM a month later its fixed or updated. One major thing Tesla did was make the split screen more of a 70/30 instead of a 50/50. Don't need half the display for the radio or seat controls, etc. While the 12" display is nice, left a lot to be desired in comparing to the intuitive, crisp, and easy to use Tesla setup. Yea I know.. comparing apples to fried fish.

Yep, with the light switch set to Auto, the headlights and associated dimming of interior lighting, tends to come on a wee bit early. It ain't perfect but it's not bad. All of it can be manually adjusted.

I haven't figured out why the camera screen goes full bright at night when you put it in reverse. Screws up the night vision.

I was just dealing with this today, it was driving me mad. I would turn the wipers on, which I guess are rain sensing?, and after a minute the screen would go dark and I could no longer see the nav, then I'd flip up the little scroll wheel to click past the detent and it would go back to light. I'd fidget with the wipers and turn them just off, then flip the wheel back and and it would go dark. I can't make sense of them. I tried adjusting them in settings but it doesn't seem to do anything. For as long as we have had this auto timeframe sense I'm blown away this is even an issue. Does anyone know if there has been a fix?

I have never figured out why they (all of them) haven't figured out how to not have the dash dim during the day when the auto headlights turn on. Minor thing, but you have to adjust the level to see everything, but soon as it really gets dark, you have to once again adjust so you don't blind yourself at night.

Some vehicles (don't recall if RAM does) will turn the dash back up during the day with the headlights on, but it usually will take 10+ minutes before it figures it out.

Never had this issue with my GMC. It did the standard thing where it would flip to "night mode" when entering a tunnel or through a heavily shaded tree alley or something but was never as bad as this. I turned off the headlights with wipers thing and that seems to have "fixed" the issue. By far the most annoying thing I've dealt with on the truck so I guess I'll live.
