I really regret not getting the Rambox. Does anyone have experience with Swing Case or the cheaper knock offs?

Would love to hear your story.

I have 2 Swing Case boxes. (left and right) on my 2021 2500 diesel.. So the story goes I had a 2018 1500 EcoDiesel supercrew with ram boxes (now my son has it) and loved the extra room for tools and camping supplies. We bought a larger TT and needed a 3/4 truck in the fall of 2021. Was hard to find a rambox model I liked so ended up with a truck that had everything except the ramboxes. I added the swing out boxes first week we had the truck. fits great under the roll up tonneau hard cover, easy enough to get to with the tailgate down. They are very secure with multiple ways to lock on the truck.

I had one of the UnderCover brand swing out boxes on my 4th gen. I had it covered 100% of the time by a Snugtop Rebel topper and rarely ever swung it out. I only kept relatively lightweight items in it (tow strap, bubba rope, gloves, flashlight, etc..) It failed in about 6 months.

The bracketry was fine and since I had already drilled into the truck, I re-mounted it to a surplus ammo can which didn't have the contours and although it was much more robust, just wasn't functional enough to justify keeping it for the current truck.

I've heard this... It fails is 6-12 months. What exactly is failing? Why? Vibration? Cheap plastic?

It started cracking at the corners. Small at first, but by the time I scrapped it I could get my thumb into the two corners facing the tailgate and the cracks along the opposite end were large enough to start chewing up contents (gloves and tow strap).

I can only guess as to the cause, but assume some combination of the temperature swings and the plastic.

I have read that some others have had better experiences, so maybe in an area where the temps never change they last longer??

Had it ever been exposed I would have chalked it up to UV wear and tear, but it rarely saw the light of day and only when I opened up the backend for something.

I also had one that was always under my Diamondback cover (no sun or weather). Also only stored soft/light weight items and started to sag, then failed in about a year. Really liked the concept but didn't hold up with any amount of driving on dirt/rough roads. Ended up just adding the "cross bin" under the Diamondback and now far more room and still have the full length of bed floor for hauling.

Everyone will have what works for them, but thought I would share my own experience with the swing box.

I had two swing cases on my 1500 a few years back. I loved them! I had zero problems and zero cracking but I only owned the truck about 18 months after I had them installed. I would definitely do it again if I didn't get that rambox. edit: I had them under a roll top tonneau cover and I didn't do any off road driving just fyi
